Seth Meyers bashed for leaving wife Alexi Ashe to take care of sick daughter amid her commencement speech

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Seth Meyers is facing backlash online after sharing a heartfelt tribute to his wife, Alexi Ashe, which some say unintentionally spotlighted his own absence during a critical parenting moment.
The 'Late Night' host, 51, praised Ashe, 42, for delivering a commencement speech while simultaneously caring for their sick three-year-old daughter, Adelaide, who clung to her onstage throughout the event.
In a series of photos posted to Instagram, Ashe dressed in graduation robes is seen calmly holding her unwell child as she speaks, while her young niece also wandered onto the stage, reports The Daily Mail.

Seth Meyers applauds Alexi Ashe for 'putting on a motherhood clinic'
Seth Meyers gushed in the caption, calling it “a motherhood clinic,” writing, “So proud to watch @alexi crush her commencement address while also putting on a motherhood clinic without missing a beat. Our daughter was under the weather and not interested in being with anyone but her mom, and instead of sending her home she let her join her on stage without ever losing her cool.”

While Meyers may have intended the post as a tribute to his wife’s poise and strength, followers quickly turned the spotlight on him, questioning why Ashe had to multitask at all during such an important occasion.
Meyers and Ashe, a human rights attorney, married in 2013 and share three children, including sons Ashe Olson, 9, Axel Strahl, 7, and daughter Adelaide, born in 2021.
Seth Meyers under fire for leaving wife to juggle speech and sick child on stage

“Am I the only one who thinks someone should have helped with the kiddo so she can focus on the task at hand?” one user commented. Another bluntly asked, “And wtf were you doing?”
Critics expressed frustration with what they saw as a broader double standard. “There’s a whole meme about dads failing to let moms have their moments like this, and just letting kids do this. So uncool of you.” One user wrote. “This is not the proud dad moment you think it is.”
Others pointed out that Ashe deserved a moment to shine without distraction, “Oh god! A motherhood clinic??! So now every mom who’s giving a speech is supposed the let their kid come on stage if they’re not feeling well. Nope. She’s awesome and congrats to her but this really is about you not giving her the moment she deserves.”
One commented, “This is just sad. Jeez can she get one moment of her own?”
