WASHINGTON, DC: Seth Meyers decided to take shots at Donald Trump once more after the president diagnosed him with an "incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome" and wished for him to be fired immediately from NBC in a Truth Social post, which drew support from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr.

The comedian greeted the criticism on the Monday, November 17, episode of his late-night show with sarcastic glee.

Seth Meyers disses Trump's usage of passive voice

Seth Meyers opened his response with exaggerated excitement, declaring, "You guys, they said my name on TV! It's not often you hear the name Seth Meyers on TV before midnight."

Focusing on Trump's framing of the sentence, "He was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage," Meyers went on to say, "Not to repeat something I'm sure you've heard many times over the years from your English teachers, but what's with the passive voice?"

He then presented a set of clarifying questions to be "helpful." "I was viewed by who? Was it you who viewed me? And did you view me exhibiting an uncontrollable rage or did viewing me send you into an uncontrollable rage?" Meyers asked.

The comedian noted that his current critique of Trump's language mirrored his response from a few weeks prior, the last time the president criticised him on social media. At the time, Trump had said he caught Meyers' show "by accident," a claim he had found hard to swallow.

“I find it hard to believe you let other people decide what to put on,” Meyers had responded, implying that Trump's assertion wasn't true.

The mystery of the catapults

Later in Monday's monologue, Seth Meyers admitted, “I will also admit to being confused as to what set Trump off this time.” He recalled that the last time Trump attacked him, the president was "very specific that he was upset about how I talked endlessly about electric catapults on aircraft carriers. So, catapults set him off last time. What was it this time?”

Meyers tracked the timing of Trump's Saturday post, which referred to "last night," indicating the likely trigger was his Friday show.

Meyers stated, "Well, he posted on Saturday and referred to last night, which means it was probably something I said on Friday, but our Friday show was a repeat. Which repeat? The catapult show. So, it was the catapults again."

Giving a 'Friends' reference, the late-night host quipped, "With respect, Mr President, you can't get mad a second time for the same thing when it's in a repeat. That would be like Rachel getting mad at Ross for cheating on her every time someone watched that episode on streaming, and in his defense, he thought they were on a break."
