Gerard Pique claims 'truth' behind his Shakira breakup was 'not told'
Gerard Pique implied during an interview with CNN en Español on October 18, that the public has yet to know "the truth" of why the couple ended their 11-year relationship, despite Shakira being open about her heartbreak.
The 2010 World Cup winner said, "In the end, the truth or what happens or occurs is not told in the way it was. I cannot control this."
The FC Barcelona star added, "The best thing is that in the end I am surrounded by my loved ones, my family, my friends, the people who really know you. They know what you are like and what you do, and that gives me a lot of peace of mind."
The 37-year-old soccer star is currently in a relationship with Clara Chia Marti.
Pique added, "I feel privileged. The life I have had—being able to play in the club of my life for more than 20 years, have two wonderful children, have an incredible family—it's amazing."
Pique has refrained from sharing details about his split with Shakira and told El Pais in 2023, "Everyone has their responsibility to try to do what is best for their children", referring to his children from the singer, Milan and Sasha.
He said in the 2023 interview, "It is about protecting them. That is the job of all parents with children. That is what I am focused on and that is my job as a father."
Shakira's take on her relationship with Gerard Pique
Shakira talked about her past relationship with Gerard Pique during a March 2024 interview with The Sunday Times. She said, "For a long time I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so he could play football. There was a lot of sacrifice for love."
The two first met in 2010 on the set of FIFA World Cup's theme song 'Waka Waka (This Time for Africa') music video. They confirmed the rumors by announcing their relationship on social media in March 2011. They had their first son (Milan) in 2013 and their second child (Sasha) was born in January 2015, per the outlet.
They announced their separation in a joint statement in June 2022 after being together for 11 years.
The statement read, "We regret to confirm that we are separating. We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect."
