Experts weigh in on Shania Twain's 'unrecognizable' new look amid growing plastic surgery rumors

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Shania Twain's People’s Choice Country Awards appearance last month sent shockwaves through social media, with many speculating about the dramatic changes to her look.

While some called her look "Muppet-like," while others simply said that she looked "unrecognizable." In response to the growing speculations about the "Queen of Country Pop," several plastic surgeons have shared their insights on her appearance and what cosmetic enhancements she might have undergone. 

Dr Gary Motykie discusses how Shania Twain transformed her look

Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr Gary Motykie spoke to Daily Mail about Shania Twain's flawless appearance, noting that several signs suggest she may have had aesthetic enhancements.

He observed changes around Twain’s eyes and a notable absence of lines, indicating she might have had a brow lift, which involves making an incision behind the hairline to tighten and lift the skin. This procedure can also smooth out wrinkles and reduce sagging.

Motykie suggested that she may have used Botox to diminish wrinkles and, after reviewing her earlier images, indicated that she likely had fillers as well. He explained, "It's an effective way to shift the focus and keep people speculating."

"In recent years, Shania Twain has been known to use wigs to completely transform her look, allowing her to reinvent herself regularly," detailed the surgeon. 

Motykie shared insights from his career in celebrity plastic surgery, noting, "In the world of celebrity plastic surgery, we've also noticed that dramatic hairstyles are increasingly used to distract from changes that may have occurred due to going under the knife or receiving dermal fillers and Botox."

According to him, many individuals, as they age, prefer non-invasive options over major surgeries.

He said, "They start playing with these things like injectable fillers and Botox to try and take out looseness in the skin without doing lifting or scars and, in many cases, they start overfilling' They do a little bit, and a little bit more, and then that filler starts to take on water and they start looking poofy." 

Dr Adam Rubinstein suggests Shania Twain underwent 'blepharoplasty'

Another prominent plastic surgeon, Dr Adam Rubinstein, from Florida, also commented on Shania Twain's significant appearance changes. He speculated that the 59-year-old might have undergone blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery.

He said, "Shania has beautiful cheekbones, with an amazing jawline, she just has a great structure naturally and she is aging particularly well. Her upper eyelids look a little bit fuller and heavier beforehand, but then when you look at the People's Choice awards they look a little bit more open and brighter."

Rubinstein suggested, "It may be make-up, but it does appear that because they look so refreshed that an upper eyelid lift — or blepharoplasty — is possible."

He disagreed with the notion that fillers were used on her face, explaining, "The kind of puffiness we see in filler is usually in specific places, and I am not seeing that with her, with her looking fuller generally. The puffier appearance may be down to weight gain instead."

Dr Christopher Costa stated that Twain's changes could be attributed to overall weight loss.

Costa, who runs Platinum Plastic Surgery in Las Vegas, noted, "I agree that her face has changed drastically over the last decade from a more full and round appearance to a much more sculpted and sharper look. However, my opinion is that the changes in her face may be more likely related to overall weight changes."
