Shanna Moakler shades Travis Barker's 'controlling personality' as she talks about competing over parenting
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Shanna Moakler opened up about the time when she used to have "competition" with her former husband Travis Barker over co-parenting their two children, Landon and Alabama Barker, during a recent interview on Jeff Lewis' SiriusXM show.
The Miss USA 1995 runner-up and the Blink-182 drummer tied the knot in 2004. They welcomed their son Landon in 2003 and daughter Alabama in 2005.
Before their divorce in 2008, Shanna and Travis also cared for the 'Hollywood Exes' star's first daughter, Atiana De La Hoya, whom she shares with Oscar De La Hoya.
Shanna Moakler said she gave up competing with Travis Barker
During her interview with Jeff, Shanna shared that though she and Travis competed amongst themselves when it came to parenting, she gave up "a long time ago," as per Hollywood Life.
The ‘Pacific Blue’ star expressed, "But I gave up, I was never really trying to compete. I gave that up a long time ago… I was like, 'You win'. Like you’re the winner. It is a topic that I don’t think a lot of people have really scratched the surface on and really have a clear understanding and it happens to both men and women. Both mothers and fathers."
She acknowledge that it was difficult for her to compete with Travis as he is a "very powerful famous person."
At one point, Shanna appeared to shade her ex-husband as she remarked, "I think it really comes from like when you’re dealing with like a narcissist or you’re dealing with a controlling personality."
She, nevertheless, admitted that though they are no longer friends, they co-parent peacefully, explaining, “We co-parent, you know if there's any issues with our kids… that’s one thing we’ll communicate but otherwise, we don’t really have a friendship."
"At the end of the day, whether the public and the media can say whatever they want to say about me as a person or decisions I’ve made, my relationships when it comes to me as a mother I don’t give five f***ks what anyone says or thinks. I only care about my children, my relationship with my children," added Shanna.
In the interview, she gushed about Travis and Kourtney Kardashian's son, Rocky, who was born in November 2023, saying, "I’m happy for him. He’s in a good place. The kids love the new baby Rocky… You know my daughter’s obsessed with him and sends me cute pictures and stuff."
Shanna Moakler said she faced some ‘parental alienation’ with Travis Barker
This is, however, not the first time that Shanna has talked about her competition with Barker regarding co-parenting.
During her appearance on Bunnie XO's ‘Dumb Blonde’ podcast, the actress and model shared, "When Travis got with Kourtney, there was some parental alienation going on there, where Travis — even when we weren't together — always wanted to be the 'super dad,'" before adding, "I'm like, 'Bro, you win.' Like you're the winner here. You have all the money."
She added that Landon and Alabama got enamored with the "glitter and fame" of the Kardashian lifestyle, as per PEOPLE Magazine.
"They’re buying them Prada, and they’re meeting Kanye [West]. I can’t give them that. I don’t have access to that. My house isn’t a mansion like Travis'," claimed Shanna.
