Shannen Doherty rushed divorce settlement with Kurt Iswarienko knowing she had only days left to live
MALIBU, CALIFORNIA: The late Shannen Doherty reportedly rushed to finalize her divorce from Kurt Iswarienko after realizing she had only a few days left to live. She was determined not to pass away while still married to her ex.
Insiders told TMZ that those close to the late '90210' star knew she would not survive past the weekend. Tragically, Doherty passed away on July 13 at the age of 53.
Was Shannen Doherty still married when she died?
According to court documents and several other reports, Shannen Doherty and her ex-husband, Iswarienko finalized their divorce just one day before her death.
As per TMZ, Shannen's renowned divorce lawyer, Laura Wasser, known for representing high-profile clients like Dr Dre and Kim Kardashian, worked tirelessly to finalize the divorce in the week leading up to Shannen's passing.
The judge overseeing the case signed the paperwork this week, fulfilling Shannen's wish to pass away as a single woman.
According to their agreement, Shannen Doherty was granted full ownership of her $6 million Malibu mansion, including all the furniture, art, and personal property inside.
Additionally, she received several bank and retirement accounts, her SAG producers pension plan, and complete rights to her production company.
Shannen retained all her premarital and post-separation earnings, including compensation and accumulations from her work on '90210' and 'Charmed,' both past and future.
She was also awarded a Salvador Dali painting.
Additionally, Kurt agreed to pay Shannen a lump sum of $100,000 as part of the settlement, in exchange for keeping ownership of the Mooney M-20 airplane.
What was Shannen Doherty's net worth?
Reports suggest that over her extensive Hollywood career, Doherty accumulated an estimated net worth of $5 million.
In a poignant statement, Shannen revealed, “As a result of my recurrent health issues, I have been largely unable to work and have no future employment prospects. Today, virtually all of the income I earn is residual income from work that I performed prior to marriage."
She explained, “The majority of my residual income is from a television show called Charmed. I recently learned that Charmed will no longer be streaming on any major streaming platform after June 30, 2024. As a result, my future residual income will dramatically decrease.”
She added, “My year-to-date income is $25,732.90. I have not worked since 2022.”
A significant issue in the negotiations was Kurt’s collection of artwork.
Ultimately, Kurt, a skilled photographer, agreed to allocate a portion of the proceeds from his art to Shannen.
Before the settlement was reached, Shannen requested the court to mandate temporary spousal support, alleging that Kurt was obstructing the disclosure of his financial details.
In her plea, Shannen told the judge, “My monthly expenses exceed $54,600. In 2023, my medical expenses alone were $21,640. Because I have not worked this year, I will no longer be eligible for SAG Health Insurance and this number will dramatically increase.”
Before the settlement was finalized, Kurt had not yet submitted an official response to the court regarding the allegations.
