A representative for Lovato has now provided an explanation to Entertainment Weekly regarding why Lovato specifically opted for this song.

A video posted by Pop Crave showcased Lovato taking the stage in NYC at the AHA's concert, walking through the crowd as she performed 'Heart Attack' for select attendees.

In defense of the singer, a representative for Lovato explained in an email to Entertainment Weekly, "She spoke on the mind-heart connection. It was a sensitive moment intended to champion the women in the room, the very reason why Demi was at the event. She did open with a beautiful intro on why she chose the song and addressed the room, talking about the mind and heart connection. It was actually a beautiful moment."

Additionally, Entertainment Weekly interviewed one of the event's attendees, who confirmed that Lovato provided an introduction explaining why she selected 'Heart Attack' for the occasion.
