LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Demi Moore was angered by the audience as she was introducing Cher during the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala, in Cap d'Antibes, France, on Thursday, May 23.

The 61-year-old star was in the middle of delivering a glowing speech for the musical artist when someone in the back of the audience appeared to have sparked her ire.

Demi Moore scolded audience

While it is not known what caused Demi’s anger, a video of the incident, released by a user named Ramin Setoodeh on X (formerly Twitter) has caused a huge upraor.

In the video, Demi can be said introducing Cher, saying, “I'm going to see if this is the moment we've all been waiting for," per Daily Mail.

The mother-of-three continued, “I'm just making sure that you're really, really with me. Because this incredible woman that I'm about to introduce - she's a Grammy winner, an Oscar winner, an Emmy winner.”

At that point, some allegedly outraged her as she paused her speech for a moment before saying to someone at the back of the audience, “Are you an Emmy winner over there in the back of the room? I f*****g don't think so.”

The audience elicited mixed reactions as while someone was surprised, the others cheered on.

The actress then resumed, “She's a style icon and my personal hair inspiration. And she was was honored by amfAR for their award of inspiration in 2015.”

She continued, “The bottom line is she is just one of the most talented, successful, and best-loved performers of all time.”

“So please,” she continued after giving a long pause, “Please give a warm welcome to the incredible, one and only, Cher.”

Earlier in the day, the two icons - who shared screens on their 1996 HBO series 'If These Walls Could Talk’ - enjoyed a moment of reunion together after almost three decades.

Demi Moore sparks online criticism

The audience was, however, not happy with Moore's words as they criticized the actress for her scolding.

One of the netizens said, "It should be more about the cause and less about the celebrity, Demi probably needed to keep the introduction short and sweet, audiences can lose patience quickly...."

"Demi Moore thinks Emmy winners are better than everyone. Celebrities aren’t better than anyone else (in a lot of cases they’re worse) and the sooner the world recognised that the better,' said someone else.

Another social media user added, "That last pause before the final introduction seemed like she zoned out! She doesn’t look healthy."

Someone else added, "The ego and entitlement is too much with all of these sorts."

"Because someone has won an entertainment award does not make them better than anyone else," said another angered user.

Someone else added, "Why do entertainers seem to think they're better than everyone else? So, they may be popular and even wealthy, but too many of the most vociferous don't have two brain cells to rub together."

Another netizen chimed in, "That was really odd. She sounded like she was only half there."

"Demi needs to unplug, plug back in and reboot," added another.

An angry fan added, "Memo to Demi Moore....nurses working 18 hour shifts during the pandemic, firefighters who risk their lives to save others, soldiers fighting terrorism on the front line, aid workers who volunteer to enter war zones....just some of the things worth highlighting. Winning an Emmy? Even with expletives attached, it's not that impressive to people outside your fake world."
