Sheinelle Jones' husband Uche Ojeh dies at 45 of brain cancer as tributes pour in for 'a perfect partner'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: NBC’s 'Today' show family is mourning a heartbreaking loss of Uche Ojeh, husband of co-host Sheinelle Jones.
Ojeh died after being diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
The news was shared on the NBC morning show on Friday, May 23. Ojeh was 45 years old and is survived by Jones and their three young children.
'Today' host Savannah Guthrie pays tribute to Uche Ojeh
Savannah Guthrie announced the devastating news on-air, saying, “With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and 'Today' co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma.”
She added, “There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children."

Guthrie added, "Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him. And so we want to take a moment to tell you more about the remarkable man who was Sheinelle’s perfect partner in life.”
Ojeh had worked for over a decade as a consultant with UAO Consulting. He was a devoted father, often seen supporting his children at games and school events.

Sheinelle Jones posted a brief thank-you note to her Instagram on Friday, writing, “Thank you, for all of your love and support,” along with a clip from her colleagues' segment dedicated to Ojeh.

Reflecting on Ojeh’s character, 'Today' co-anchor Craig Melvin shared, “We had a number of conversations about just life in general. And one thing he always talked about, he talked about those kids.”
“He loved those kids more than anything else in this world, and was just so proud. He was that dad that was on the sideline of every soccer game. He was at all the concerts and the recitals. He was that guy,” Melvin added.

Al Roker, who has also battled cancer, shared his thoughts during the segment, calling Ojeh a “private guy” who was “wickedly funny” and “humble.”
Jones had taken a leave of absence from her role in late 2024 and addressed it via Instagram on January 15, saying she was taking "time to deal with a family health matter."

She wrote, "It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon."

After Sheinelle Jones posted her message, many online came forward to support her and her family.
Savannah Guthrie commented, “Uche was an extraordinary person. Full of light and heart and faith. Sheinelle, my dearest, we love you and the kids with all of our hearts. I marvel at your strength. You are surrounded by love now and forever.”

Actress Selma Blair wrote on Instagram, “Oh Sheinelle . i am so sorry. you are so loved. i love you. only strength and love to you and yours.”
Comedian and actress Sherri Shepherd also shared a message, “Sheinelle sending you love & prayers.”
Entertainment reporter Nischelle Turner added, “Covering you and your family with prayer and healing energy.”
Actress Holly Robinson Peete wrote, “I am heartbroken to hear of your loss... Your husband’s love and light will live on through the beautiful life you shared. I pray you find strength in the love that surrounds you and comfort in the memories you hold dear.”
