Shelley Duvall's longtime partner Dan Gilory announced her death

Duvall’s death was confirmed by her longtime partner Dan Gilroy. “My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us. Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

She worked in several hit movies, including 'Popeye,' '3 Women,' 'McCabe & Mrs Miller,' and 'Nashville.’

During an interview in November 2016, Duvall opened up about her mental struggle on ‘Dr Phil’ show. “I am very sick. I need help,” she said back then.

Previously while talking about her experience of working in Stanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining,’ the actress shared the challenge she faced while filming.

“I will never give that much again. If you want to get into pain and call it art, go ahead, but not with me,” she said.

In another interview, Duvall revealed that she would put on a Sony Walkman and “listen to sad songs. Or you just think about something very sad in your life or how much you miss your family or friends. But after a while, your body rebels. It says: ‘Stop doing this to me. I don’t want to cry every day.’ And sometimes just that thought alone would make me cry."

"To wake up on a Monday morning, so early, and realize that you had to cry all day because it was scheduled — I would just start crying," she told People.

I’d be like, ‘Oh no, I can’t, I can’t.’ And yet I did it. I don’t know how I did it. Jack said that to me, too. He said, ‘I don’t know how you do it.'”

Gilroy even went on to note that their shift to Texas after the destruction of her Los Angeles home due to the Northridge earthquake in 1994 led to more downfall.

He reportedly revealed that she "started becoming afraid of things, maybe didn't want to work."

"It's really hard to pin it on any one thing," the writer stated as he continued that Duvall turned "kind of delusional."

"It went south like that," he disclosed but also mentioned he did not feel much tension about her when she sleeps in her car, which she prefers.
