LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Emma Stone and Taylor Swift have been the best of friends for nearly two decades. So when Stone cracked a joke at Swift's expense after winning a Golden Globe on Sunday, January 7, fans knew it was all in good fun, as per HuffPost.

While speaking to reporters backstage, Stone jokingly branded Swift an "a*****e" for enthusiastically applauding her Best Actress victory for 'Poor Things.' The cheeky quip sent fans into a frenzy online, as they reacted with delight to Stone bringing her signature humor to one of showbiz's biggest events.

Responding to a question from the media about Swift's enthusiastic support during her Golden Globe win, Stone jokingly remarked, "What an a*****e, am I right?"

The playful banter continued as she elaborated on their nearly two-decade friendship, saying, “I’ve known her for almost 20 years and I was very happy she was there. She was also nominated tonight which was wonderful and, yes, what an asshole.”

Despite the expletive, it was clearly all in good fun between the longtime pals. This is not the first time they have publicly supported each other's accomplishments. Stone, 35, and Swift, 34, have been friends for nearly 20 years after meeting at the 2008 Young Hollywood Awards, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Stone's Golden Globe win was her second and recognized her acclaimed performance in 'Poor Things,' her third collaboration with director Tony McNamara after 'The Favourite' and 'Cruella.' In the film, she plays a woman brought back to life by Willem Dafoe's eccentric scientist character.

Stone beat out a competitive field of fellow nominees including Jennifer Lawrence, Margot Robbie, and Fantasia Barrino. Lawrence, a fellow nominee and friend of Stone's, was spotted enthusiastically cheering when Stone's name was called. Before the announcement, Lawrence had joked "If I don't win, I'm leaving."
