HOUSTON, TEXAS: Simone Biles has solidified her status as America’s most decorated Olympic gymnast since her triumphant return from the 2024 Paris Olympics on August 12, where she added four more medals to her already impressive collection.

Despite her unmatched achievements, Biles, at age 31, faces the daunting reality that her Olympic career may be nearing its end as the 2028 Games in Los Angeles approach. The question on everyone’s mind is whether Biles will make one final appearance on the global stage or step away from the sport she has dominated for so long.

Simone Biles’ potential to become the 2nd oldest American gymnast at 2028 games

Almost a month has passed since Simone Biles last dazzled at the Paris Games, and she’s been enjoying a break from gymnastics while contemplating her future. At 31, she would be an exceptionally seasoned gymnast - an age that’s practically ancient in the world of elite gymnastics.

During the Paris Olympics, Biles was already the oldest member of Team USA, and competing in the 2028 Games would make her the second oldest American gymnast ever, following only Marie Margaret Hoesly, who competed at 35 in the 1952 Olympics.

“Everybody wants to know this question!” Biles exclaimed on 'The Tonight Show'.

“I’m like, ‘Can’t I live?’” She humorously noted, “First I’m getting older, 27 is a little bit old for a gymnast. In gymnastics, I’m aging like fine wine. For a gymnast, old. Outside of gym, I’m young, tequila, no hangover!”

Simone Biles’ age and its impact on her 2028 Olympic prospects

Simone Biles, wearing a silver GOAT necklace, also hinted at a potential shake-up in her routine, expressing interest in having a tag team partner for events. Despite winning four medals in Paris, including three golds, and holding the title of most decorated American gymnast of all time, the future remains uncertain. The youngest member of Team USA this year was just 16-year-old Hezly Rivera - half Biles’ age.

Nevertheless, Biles’ future at the 2028 LA Olympics remains uncertain. As she weighs her options and considers her next steps, it seems that the only barrier between Biles and a potential final Olympic appearance might just be herself.
