NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: President Joe Biden earned backlash on the internet as he tweeted about his administration's efforts to curb 'drip pricing' on March 2.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, "Drip pricing is a pricing technique in which firms advertise only part of a product’s price and reveal other charges later as the customer goes through the buying process. The additional charges can be mandatory charges, such as hotel resort fees, or fees for optional upgrades and add-ons."

Biden's tweet dealt with the drip pricing used by food delivery apps in particular and highlighted high delivery and servicing fees in particular.

However, netizens reacting to the post seemed less concerned with what the President had to say on the subject, and more so that this was what the White House was focusing on at a time when global conflicts, the border crisis, and inflation are by far the larger looming issues.

President Joe Biden's tweet

Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Biden wrote, "Have you ever used a food delivery app to order a meal, but noticed a much higher end price than when you started searching? This is called 'drip pricing' – and it adds up."

"My Administration is working to end this practice and other junk fees that rip consumers off," he added, followed by a poster that shows the receipt of a generic food delivery app on a cell phone, where the delivery fee and service fee are highlighted in red as 'Too Much' and 'Too High' respectively.

Internet reacts to President Joe Biden's post

Netizens were quick to call out the President for his misplaced attention, as the following tweets demonstrate.

A user reminded him, "Sir there is a war going on..."

"The only thing you should be working on is closing the border!!!!" exclaimed another.

"This is obviously the most pressing issue of the year," mocked a third.

"Ever notice how everything is more expensive? That’s called inflation," jibed a fourth. "It happens when your government prints and spends more money than it should. It’s also theft."

"Bro, focus on helping people afford their groceries," commented a fifth.
