According to the sources, the fact that the two are single lends credence to the idea that they are more than just friends.

The 73-year-old Hulu actor lost his cherished wife Nancy Dolman—whom he married in 1980—to ovarian cancer in 2010, leaving him a widower. Since Dolman's death, Martin has not been in public relationships.

Meryl and her husband Don Gummer got married in 1978 but sources recently revealed that the two have been leading separate lives for "more than six years," per OK! Magazine.

Meryl and Don share four adult children: actresses Mamie Gummer, 40, Grace Gummer, 37, and Louisa Jacobson, 30, singer-songwriter Henry Wolfe, 43; and five grandchildren.

Meryl Streep and Martin Short repeatedly denied dating rumors on multiple occasions

The duo—who met on the set of their popular comedy series 'Only Murders in the Building'—have had to repeatedly refute relationship rumors.

During a February episode of 'Club Random with Bill Maher,' the 'Father of the Bride' actor denied having a romantic relationship with Meryl after the two put up an adorable display at multiple award shows, including the AFI Awards.

"We're not a couple, we are just very close friends," Martin declared on the popular show.

Rumors began circulating after actors posed together on January 7 at the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards and once more on January 12 at the AFI Awards, per Daily Mail.

Martin's representative declared they are just 'good friends, nothing more' in response to fans' rumors that they were romantically involved following the Golden Globes.

Moreover, Meryl put her hand lightly on Martin's face on the red carpet a few days later at the AFI Awards luncheon, seemingly to playfully push him away. After entering the luncheon, the pals sat close to one another and laughed heartily.
