WASHINGTON, DC: Speaker Mike Johnson has fiercely criticized President Joe Biden’s recent executive order on border security.

In a joint statement released on Tuesday, June 4, Johnson labeled the move as a "desperate political stunt."

During a press conference earlier, Johnson also described the executive order as “weak” and “window dressing.”

Mike Johnson says Joe Biden's executive order is aimed at stabilizing his plummeting poll numbers

In a detailed joint statement titled "President Biden Election-Year Border Charade," Johnson elaborated on his criticisms.

"President Biden's Executive Order is nothing more than a desperate political stunt to try and stabilize his plummeting poll numbers," he wrote.

Johnson accused Biden of pursuing a "failed open border agenda" since his first day in office.

According to Johnson, this agenda has led to a "historic humanitarian and national security catastrophe," turning every American community into a "border community" and exposing the country to violent criminals, terrorists, cartels, and dangerous drugs.

The executive order, which aims to provide the White House with additional authority to manage migrant flows at the southern border, will allow officials to turn away migrants when the seven-day average of daily border crossings exceeds 2,500 between ports of entry, The Hill reported.

Mike Johnson opines executive order does 'nothing to end parole abuses'

However, Johnson argues that the executive action falls short in several critical areas.

"This Executive action does nothing to end parole abuses or catch-and-release," adding, "It continues the administration’s abuse of the CBP One app."

Furthermore, Johnson pointed out that the order fails to reimplement former President Donald Trump’s "successful" Remain in Mexico policy and does not allocate new resources for border patrol.

Johnson's further poking holes in the executive order stating that it does not address the deportation of "millions" who have crossed the border illegally "since Biden took office."

He warned that the order would still allow many illegal immigrants to enter the country before any supposed shutdown authority is enacted.

He also argued that House Republicans, who passed Secure the Border Act, over a year ago "would actually fix the problem," but that Senate and Biden were dragging their feet "on taking meaningful action."

"Americans can see right through Biden’s election-year stunt," Johnson concluded in the joint statement.

Mike Johnson backlashed for his joint statement questioning Joe Biden's executive order

Johnson's joint statement sparked a flurry of reactions online. Social media users were quick to voice their opinions, ranging from criticism of the Speaker's actions to expressing frustration with the broader political landscape.

"Unfortunately, it is still more than you did at this point..." wrote one on X (formerly Twitter).

"His poll numbers are up," argued one. "We're still waiting for you to do something other than write posts or letters," mocked another.

"We also see right through the Republican clown show that does nothing meaningful to change the madness," wrote one more.

"Please resign and let a strong person lead. We need someone who can’t be 'scared' so easily. You have the power of the purse and yet refuse to use it," one more claimed.

"All talk, blah, blah, blah. When are you going to stop talking and take action? The country is falling apart with your help," remarked another.
