Stephen A Smith warns Trump’s remarks on Rob Reiner’s death could ‘boot GOP out of office’
WASHINGTON, DC: Sports commentator Stephen A Smith pushed back on President Donald Trump’s jab at the late filmmaker Rob Reiner, warning it could spell disaster for the GOP.
Hollywood was rocked on Sunday when Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found stabbed to death in their upscale Brentwood home. Police apprehended their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, arresting him on suspicion of m*rder. Nick has previously battled d*ug addiction and mental health issues.
Trump attacks Rob Reiner in Truth Social post
Trump wasted no time making it about himself. On Monday morning, he posted on Truth Social, “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”
Trump added, “He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”

The president doubled down when pressed by reporters in the Oval Office later that day. “Well, I wasn’t a fan of his at all,” he said. “He was a deranged person, as far as Trump is concerned. He became like a deranged person, Trump derangement syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all in any way, shape, or form. I thought he was very bad for our country.”
Stephen A Smith slams Trump remarks
Less than 24 hours after the bodies were found, Stephen A Smith unloaded on his podcast, calling out President Donald Trump’s tone in no uncertain terms.
“Rob Reiner and his wife just got m*rdered less than 24 hours at the time of this taping. Their son has been arrested for m*rdering them. You’re hearing gross details about how they were m*rdered... And the president is blaming Trump derangement syndrome, in other words, they were so nasty towards him, that’s why it happened,” Smith said.

“This is the kind of stuff that’s gonna get GOP folks out of office,” he continued. “Even though you speak against them in terms of how inappropriate his verbiage is, and how disgusting and vile it is, and inexcusable, particularly for a man in his position, the other side to it is that you’re going to speak up in defense of him and march lockstep with him under most circumstances.”
“A lot of times, shoving aside the rhetoric because you’re saying that’s just Trump being Trump, and then you’re going to wonder why your a** is going to get booted out of office. This is the kind of stuff that we’re talking about here,” Smith added.
Republicans push back on Trump remarks
Trump’s post sparked widespread backlash from Hollywood and Washington, DC. Some GOP voices also pushed back.
Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene posted on X that it was “a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies,” noting the son’s struggles with addiction.
Rob Reiner and his wife were tragically killed at the hands of their own son, who reportedly had drug addiction and other issues, and their remaining children are left in serious mourning and heartbreak.

Rep Thomas Massie said the comments were “inappropriate and disrespectful discourse about a man who was just brutally m*rdered.”
Regardless of how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is inappropriate and disrespectful discourse about a man who was just brutally murdered. I guess my elected GOP colleagues, the VP, and White House staff will just ignore it because they’re afraid? I challenge anyone to defend it. pic.twitter.com/j3dvzRxLQJ
