Steve Irwin's widow Terri warms fans hearts for refusing to date as she's had her 'happily ever after'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Terri Irwin has remained steadfast in her decision not to date anyone since the tragic death of her husband, Steve Irwin, 17 years ago.
In an interview with Us Weekly, Terri shared that she still holds a deep love for Steve, whom she considers irreplaceable.
Terri Irwin on life without Steve Irwin
Terri mentioned, “While there are a lot of wonderful men in the world, can you see another Steve Irwin?”
“I just can’t. I’d be like, ‘I love that you’re a librarian, and the Dewey Decimal System is cool, but I got to go jump a crocodile," she humorously noted, emphasizing how Steve's adventurous spirit set him apart.
Terri reflected on the fulfilling marriage they shared from June 1992 until his untimely death in September 2006, describing it as her "happily ever after."
During their years together, the couple welcomed daughter Bindi, 25, and son Robert, 20.
“I had the best marriage in the whole world for 14 years, and I’m very comfortable with the person I see in the mirror,” the Australia Zoo owner told the magazine. “I’m very lucky. … So I’m OK to be on my own now.”
While Terri is "lonely for Steve," she doesn't view herself as "a lonely person" in need of a partner.
Terri has become a grandmother since the conservationist died at 44.
The couple's children, Bindi and Robert, have grown up continuing their father's conservation work. Bindi, now 25, and her husband Chandler Powell have a daughter named Grace, born in March 2021. Bindi has spoken about how her father would have been an amazing grandfather and how they will introduce Grace to him through his documentaries.
“I don’t think we would’ve ever seen our daughter,” Bindi said in February 2021. “He would’ve just whisked her away into the zoo, and it would’ve been perfect.
“But it is so nice that we’ll be able to introduce her to her grandfather through all of the documentaries,” she continued. “It’s really special.”
Bindi has also shared her personal health challenges, including her battle with endometriosis and subsequent surgery.
Robert, 20, has pursued a career as a wildlife photographer and had a public relationship with Heath Ledger's niece, Rorie Buckey, which ended in February 2022.
