LONDON, UK: Prince Harry, who launched the biennial sporting competition Invictus Games ten years ago, will be returning to the UK in May to commemorate the event's milestone anniversary.

According to the announcement made on Sunday, April 28, the Duke of Sussex will read at a ceremony on May 8 at London's St. Paul's Cathedral, in honor of the Invictus Games' 10th anniversary of founding, per BBC News.

Prince Harry set to travel to Britain without Meghan Markle

Amidst the ongoing turbulence surrounding the royal family in the UK, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle reside permanently in the United States with their two children, Archie and Lilibet.

However, Harry will make his formal return to the British Isles for the Invictus Games anniversary in early May. Invictus Games were introduced by the royal member in 2014.

According to reports, Harry would return for a memorable occasion honoring the global athletic competition for injured or ailing active duty members as well as retired military personnel.

There has been no confirmation that Meghan or the couple's kids will be present. They might choose to remain in their home town of Montecito, California, while Harry travels by himself.

On May 8, Prince Harry is scheduled to attend the Thanksgiving ceremony at St Paul's Cathedral in London. Actor Damian Lewis will perform a poem during the event, and the Prince will give a reading.

In 2014, the Prince introduced the Invictus Games, a sporting competition for wounded military members. According to a Games spokesperson, the event would commemorate "a decade of changing lives and saving lives through sport."

Harry will be returning to the UK for the first time since his visit with his father, King Charles III, in February, after his cancer diagnosis announcement. It will be his first significant UK event attendance in a while.

Following their retirement as senior royals in 2020, the Duke and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, relocated to the United States. The statement did not specify if Meghan will attend the event with Harry.

However, Meghan will travel to Nigeria with the prince following the event. According to Nigerian media, they would interact with service members and their families and take part in customary cultural events.

Internet lambasts Prince Harry for his reported return to the UK

Netizens immediately began to express their opinions about the situation following reports that Prince Harry would visit the UK again for anniversary event.

One online user took to X (formerly Twitter) to slam the former Duke by saying, "Who cares? Let’s stop feeding his ego shall we"

A second user mocked, "Amazing how quickly the little prince conquered his big fear of security in the UK once social media lit up wanting Mike Tendall to represent Invictus instead of Him! And Mike Tendall would be the better Man to represent Invictus than the little prince!"

"For good PR, had to pave way for the Nigeria Trip announcement! Would have looked bad if he didn’t come to London “for security reasons” but could easily go to Baka Haram terrorist country!" remarked another X account, followed by a hashtag #HarryandMeghanAreAJoke

A fourth user noted, "On a podium claiming victimhood to million of real heroes while he’s defector from his grandmother the queen who gave him everything and stomping on her legacy by calling the royals racist … this is the man who is given a platform back in Britain ??"

"Stop writing about Harry. Stop stalking Harry. Stop it!" exclaimed one user.

One more added, "Another publicity stunt from Harry. He’s becoming a bit of a hanger on. He should stay away"

Another one remarked, "Yep! Not to mend fences with Dad or brother, or to see his sister-in-law. Is it because Harry realizes his treatment of them has likely contributed to his family’s health issues!??! Appears so"

"I hope there'll be a plastic shield in front of him to protect him from the eggs being thrown at him," mocked another one.
