LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In his latest segment on 'The Daily Show', Jon Stewart took aim at the GOP's brand of "performative" patriotism, denouncing the use of American flags and constitutional references as mere theatrics.

Stewart expressed skepticism about the notion that Donald Trump's supporters embody true patriotism, accusing them of advocating for presidential immunity akin to monarchy.

Jon Stewart calls for honesty from Trump supporters

Stewart urged Trump supporters to be honest about their allegiance, stating, "If you want to love Trump, love him. Go to the rallies. Buy the sneakers. You want to give him absolute power...but stop framing it as patriotism because the one thing you cannot say is that Donald Trump [is] following the tradition of the founders."

"He is advocating for complete and total presidential immunity - his words, not mine. That is monarchy sh*t, and it’s your right to support it, but just do me a favor for historical accuracy. Next time you want to dress up at the rallies, wear the right f**king colored coats," Stewart emphasized.

Opening with a segment on President Biden's State of the Union address, Stewart swiftly transitioned to criticizing the right's perception of "real Americans" residing away from the coasts.

Stewart ridicules GOP's revolutionary tradition claim

Referencing Alabama Senator Katie Britt, Stewart mocked the Republican narrative of being the true inheritors of the American revolutionary tradition.

“It is just one more entry in the Republican mythology that they are the inheritors of the American revolutionary tradition, that they somehow are more Americany than non-Republican Americans,” he said.

During his 15-minute opening, Stewart brandished copies of the Constitution, the Magna Carta, and even the Gap employee handbook. He asserted that Democrats don't despise America but might have grievances against certain aspects, humorously noting that they may only dislike "room temperature yoga."

Stewart didn't hold back in highlighting Trump's disregard for the first amendment, his flirtation with dictatorship, and his interest in military action against peaceful protestors, contrary to recent attempts at presenting a balanced view.

Social media agrees with Jon Stewart

One user wrote, "Whoever advised Katie Britt to post that video is either a comic genius or a serial killer... "

Another said, "What's wrong with states' rights though. States should have rights."

Someone else added, "You misunderstand, they are true patriots of The Confederacy."

One user replied, "It’s “we the people”. Not “me the people”. Trump and his cult need to learn that."

Yet another comment read, "Those supporters saying that we need a dictator and that they would let him be one is truly terrifying."
