'Stop inviting them': Internet feels men at the 2024 Met Gala were just plain boring as most went for 'basic tuxedos'

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The Internet is disappointed with stars showing up with no "Met Gala energy" for fashion's biggest night, especially when it came to the men.

Many felt their basic tux looks did injustice to the "Garden of Time" dress code, which was inspired by British author JG Ballard's 1962 short story of the same name.

Having said that, it was not all dull at the 2024 Met Gala as a few men did manage to steal the show. 

Bad Bunny, who co-chaired the event, wore a custom Maison Margiela Artisanal Collection by John Galliano, as per Vogue. 

The  Puerto Rican singer’s ensemble included a black satin corset, a navy barathea wool smoking jacket with black grosgrain lapels, and a reverse-swatched hat made of blue foam. 

Moreover, he walked the red carpet with a floral bouquet, containing the national flower of Puerto Rico, Flor de Maga, which signifies his attention to detail. 

Another celeb who impressed critics was Colman Domingo. The 54-year-old actor chose to walk the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art steps wearing a dramatic cape.

His look was a tribute to the two late Black icons, fellow actor Chadwick Boseman and journalist Andre Leon Talley, who also wore capes in their Met looks, as per E! News.

Keeping in mind the "Garden of Time" theme, Domingo, sporting a white-and-black Willy Chavarria suit, carried a bouquet of white flowers wrapped in a black cloth.

Despite being a co-chair, Chris Hemsworth failed to turn heads in his off-white cream suit by Tom Ford. His wife, Elsa Pataky, went for a golden long-sleeved gown to complement his look. 

Jamie Dornan also got a thumbs down from fans at the biggest night in fashion. The Northern Irish actor was seen in a classic three-piece suit designed by Jonathan Anderson. 

He chose to add a pop of color with a sky-blue vest and a red tie, while his pants were pinstriped, and he accessorized with a gold brooch.

One wrote, "This roach served better looks than these men at the met gala this year," and another said, "Man all the men are boring at this year's #MetGala Where are the over the elaborate designs? Just plain Ole boring suits."

Another expressed their disappointment about men wearing basic tuxedos with a meme and wrote, "99% of the men at the #MetGala right now."

"If the men aren’t at this standard, they can leave #MetGala," expressed someone else, attaching an image of what they deemed to be a fitting outfit. 

One more commented, "Look at the women, they put afford for every look.. the men should just go home💀 wth no afford at all and just look like a store manager from a freaking department store or what🤡 #MetGala."

An individual shared, "Maybe it’s time to stop inviting men to the #MetGala if they’re just going to come looking like they’re at the Golden Globes. Like…there’s a theme, you’re (likely) an actor or performer…so get into that BEST costume…"
