WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden called out his predecessor, Donald Trump, for conducting a mega-fundraiser event in Palm Beach, criticizing the "bunch of hedge fund billionaires" who attended to contribute to his campaign, New York Post reported.

"This campaign is Scranton versus Palm Beach," the 81-year-old incumbent, seeking reelection to the White House, said in a 54-second video posted on X.

"Folks, you know Trump is down in Florida today raising money from a bunch of hedge fund billionaires who want him to cut Social Security and Medicare and their taxes," Biden said, reiterating his claim that the ex-president would cut the entitlement programs if elected in November.

Trump conducted a high-dollar fundraiser event in Florida on Saturday, April 6, collecting a record $50.5 million in a single day. Hedge fund billionaire John Paulson hosted the glitzy event at his $110 million estate in Palm Beach. Prominent Republicans who attended the event donated between $250,000 and $814,000 to enter the event.

Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's criminal trial to begin on April 15, which would make it the first criminal prosecution of a former American president. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 election. Joe Biden praises his March fundraising report

Besides slamming Trump's fundraiser, Biden praised the $90 million donations his campaign raised in March, ending the month with $192 million cash on hand.

"Our campaign now has 1.6 million individual donors, and more than half a million of those donors are brand-new since 2020," he said.

Emphasizing the contributions from small donors, the president added, "This is a grassroots campaign of nurses and teachers and firefighters and cops versus Donald Trump and a couple billionaires looking for a tax cut."

"Real people who know the stakes of this election and are rolling up their sleeves to pitch in what they can," Biden said, concluding the message by thanking his supporters.

However, he did not mention his star-studded fundraiser in New York on March 28, where he raised around $25 million with the support of former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. The event featured performances from A-list celebrities like Lizzo and Queen Latifah.

In seeking a second White House term amidst his criminal and civil legal battles and nearly half a billion dollar penalty, Trump continues to lag behind his Democratic opponent's fundraising.

Keeping aside Saturday's Palm Beach event, his campaign raised only $65.6 million in March, ending the month with $93.1 million cash on hand. In addition, new RNC co-chair Lara Trump has requested the poorest supporters to save up to $5 if they cannot afford to donate right now.

Internet reminds Joe Biden of his own lavish fundraiser

Netizens lashed out at Biden for criticizing Trump's fundraiser event, reminding him about last month's glittery NYC fundraising.

One user wrote, "This is such nonsense and a LIE. Democrats now are the party of the Elite Rich and Republicans are the party of the working class."

"Wait??? Didn’t you just raise a bunch of money at a fundraiser for elites in NYC? Some grassroots going on there huh?" another person questioned. A third user held similar opinion, "Joe is once again lying. He literally held a lavish fundraiser in NYC a couple of weeks ago with a bunch of celebrities and billionaires. Follow if you agree."

A fourth response read, "Lmao you just had a fund raiser with Obama and Clinton and elites but trump can't ? You are pathetic as a president hell you were a pathetic senator."

"You just had a tone deaf fundraiser last week Joey Stop being a hypocrite," someone else chimed in. Another individual said, "After Biden wooed the ‘Wall Street crowd’. Joe Biden needs new material. This old stuff, is STALE ."

A remark read, "No bigger hypocrite than 'Clueless Joe.'" Another added, "The nerve of this guy! Calling out Trump for attending a fundraiser when he did the same thing last week. Only he did it during a funeral for NYC police officer, Jonathan Diller, who was murdered in the line of duty."
