WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden's re-election campaign amassed more than $90 million in donations in March, outstripping his opponent, former President Donald Trump's, $65.6 million, the New York Post reported.

Closing the month with $192 million cash on hand, the campaign claimed the amount was the highest cash on hand in the history of any Democrat fundraising.

March marked the highest contribution for the 81-year-old incumbent, who brought in more than $25 million in a star-studded New York fundraiser event on March 28, supported by former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

His campaign team claimed last month was the "strongest grassroots fundraising month" since Biden announced his re-election bid in April 2023.

Biden campaign criticizes Donald Trump's Palm Beach fundraiser

The president's re-election campaign announced the March donation collection hours before Trump's top dollar fundraiser event in Palm Beach on Saturday, April 6, where he hoped to outpace his successor.

Biden's team criticized the GOP presumptive nominee for teaming up with billionaires instead of grassroots focus. "While Trump cozies up to billionaires tonight at Mar-a-Lago to raise his money, Team Biden-Harris' first-quarter haul was driven by the strength of our grassroots support, which continues to grow month over month," the campaign said.

The March haul surpassed the $53 million collected in February, while his opponent lagged with a total of $42 million cash on hand.

Furthermore, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Biden-Harris 2024 campaign manager, boasted about the historic fundraising, saying, "The money we are raising is historic, and it's going to the critical work of building a winning operation, focused solely on the voters who will decide this election – offices across the country, staff in our battleground states, and a paid media program meeting voters where they are."

"It's a stark contrast to Trump's cash-strapped operation that is funneling the limited and billionaire-reliant funds it has to pay off his various legal fees," she added.

On the other hand, Trump indeed broke the record for Biden's $25 million plus NYC fundraiser at his mega-fundraiser event in Florida. As per the latest reports by CNN, the former president's campaign announced they brought in a record high of $50.5 million on April 6.

Internet turns skeptical

Netizens were not entirely convinced by Biden campaign's historic fundraising in March, causing them to question where the donations came from.

One user wrote, "Highly suspicious," and another asked, "Who are these mega donors?"

"Makes no sense why the oldest most unpopular president in history has those kind of campaign funds.. smells fishy," a third user added. While a fourth one questioned, "Shouldn't there be an investigation?"

Someone else claimed, "Gee...wonder where it came from. Seems they are getting something out of the billions sent to Ukraine. That is laundered money and you can't change my mind."

"I’m guessing these campaign funds are actually being drawn from our taxes..there’s a lot of laundering going on these days..I’m suspicious that way..," a skeptical individual wrote.

Another one said, "I'll be darned, it grew from $25 million at a fundraising event to $90million. I guess BS pays. Personally, I think their fundraising is exaggerated."
