Sunny Hostin calls out Kelly Clarkson for throwing ‘tantrum’ after Brooklyn store video emerges
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The back-and-forth between Kelly Clarkson and a Brooklyn store is getting more attention after security footage of the singer's visit surfaced online.
The controversy began when Clarkson shared her experience at Art of Play, saying she felt she had been treated unfairly. Now, the latest development has brought the situation back into the spotlight, with 'The View' host Sunny Hostin slamming the singer.
Sunny Hostin says Kelly Clarkson threw ‘a bit of a tantrum’ after footage surfaced
During Thursday’s episode of 'The View', the co-host discussed the clip, which was shared on journalist Pablo Torre’s podcast, 'Pablo Torre Finds Out'. Hostin said the footage changed her perspective a little, but she still felt Clarkson’s reaction was over the top.
“It seems like she kind of had a bit of a tantrum because she starts putting things back kind of quickly,” Hostin said. Guest co-host Raven-Symoné agreed with the criticism, calling the singer “petty,” and Hostin echoed her comment.
“When you have a huge platform, there comes a lot of responsibility with that,” Hostin said earlier in the segment to Clarkson’s millions of followers. “I just can’t imagine that she doesn’t know that there’s that social media mob hanging out on the internet.”
“The rage machine is something I’m sure she has been subjected to because she’s a star,” the attorney continued. “The video did change my perspective a little bit.”
Hostin had already said earlier in the week that she believed the issue should have been handled privately. She also pointed to the responsibility that comes with having a large social media following.
“When you have a huge platform, there comes a lot of responsibility with that,” Hostin said, adding that celebrities should understand how quickly online criticism can turn into a pile-on.
Raven-Symone talks about Kelly Clarkson as store dispute continues
While Hostin slammed Clarkson’s response, Raven-Symoné pushed back against the idea that the singer should stay quiet simply because she is famous. “I think it’s unfair just because she had that many followers she’s not allowed to express how she feels about what happened to her,” the 'That’s So Raven' alum argued.
“I would say to those watching me and to those listening to Kelly, our experience about the situation might not resonate with you the same way that it resonated with [us],” she said. “You don’t know my past. You don’t know what I’ve been through.”
Raven-Symone also pointed out that Clarkson grew up “not with a lot of money,” saying, “If somebody’s touching her trigger button about wealth or money, you don’t know how she received that.”
The Disney Channel alum added, “I saw the video, too, and I feel like if you treated her like every other person that came into that store, then you’re telling everybody they can’t afford it.”
