TAMPA, FLORIDA: A gunman opened fire at Citibank’s office campus outside Tampa, Florida, on Wednesday, November 4, killing one person before dying himself.

Sheriff Chad Chronister said the attack appears to have been aimed at one person and not at the public.

Thousands of people work at the site, which was evacuated as deputies searched the buildings. Authorities have not yet named the victim or the shooter or given a motive.

Gunman seen with two weapons

The identity of the woman killed in the attack remains unknown, as does the reason she may have been singled out.

Sheriff Chronister has so far offered only one description of the incident, calling it a “targeted incident.”

He confirmed that the suspected attacker also died, but investigators have yet to disclose what brought the gunman to the Citibank campus or whether he knew the victim.

A possible connection to a contractor has emerged in early accounts of the shooting.

The suspect was reportedly associated with a vendor working at the facility rather than being a direct Citi employee.

Four other people were reportedly transported to hospitals, although their injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

The sequence of events began with reports of a vehicle crashing into the Citibank Center.

A gray car was said to have struck the building before reports of an armed man carrying a shotgun and a handgun emerged over sheriff’s radio channels.

Around the same time, dispatchers received information about a person bleeding inside the campus cafeteria.

Images recorded at the location showed a middle-aged man, apparently bald or with a shaved head, wearing a black jacket, loose trousers and boots.

Authorities have not explained how he reached the premises, or whether he had any connection to the site before the attack.

Employees evacuated and roads closed

Hillsborough College issued instructions for students and staff to remain inside, while law enforcement dealt with the emergency at the Citibank campus.

Inside the complex, the response involved a building-wide search and an evacuation of the workforce.

The sheriff’s office put the number of responding deputies at 367, with specialist units also involved.

SWAT personnel were tasked with checking the offices, clearing each room as they moved through the property.

Outside, police escorted groups of Citi employees to a nearby parking area.

The gathering point allowed officials to check who had been evacuated and gave co-workers a chance to find one another.

The sheriff’s office separately appealed to motorists to avoid the roads around the site until further notice.

Citi’s public response was brief. The company confirmed that its Tampa location had been affected and said it was working with investigators.

“Aware of an incident impacting our site in Tampa, Florida and are coordinating with law enforcement,” the statement read.
