Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce romance-inspired movie ‘Christmas in the Spotlight’ slammed as ‘cringe’
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Lifetime’s latest Christmas film, 'Christmas in the Spotlight', has quickly gone viral for its uncanny resemblance to the romance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
The film, which premiered over the weekend, tells the story of Bowyn, a popular singer, and Drew, a professional football player, who develop a romance amid the pressures of fame.
Does Lifetime's 'Christmas in the Spotlight' mirror Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's romance?
'Christmas in the Spotlight' stars Jessica Lord as Bowyn, a famous musician who sings about love and relationship. Laith Wallschleger plays Drew, a pro football player who goes to one of Bowyn’s concerts with his niece.
Later, he openly admits he has a crush on her and decides to give things a shot, even though their busy schedules might make it challenging.
In addition to Lord and Wallschleger, the cast also includes Emmy-winning host and producer Jeannie Mai and TikTok creator Haley Kalil, who’s making her first appearance on television.
'Christmas in the Spotlight' premiered on November 23, Saturday, on Lifetime at 8 pm ET. Viewers can watch it on live TV streaming platforms like DirecTV Stream and Philo.
Directed by Michelle Ouellet, the movie's plot seemingly closely mirrors Swift and Kelce's relationship, from the media scrutiny to the exchanged friendship bracelets—a hallmark of Swift’s fan culture.
Fans of Swift immediately took notice of the numerous references to the pop star’s songs, including 'The Alchemy', 'Wonderland, All Too Well', 'Mean', and 'You're Losing Me', as well as the characters’ immediate sparks resembling Swift and Kelce's early interactions.
Drew also publicly declares his crush on Bowyn in the movie, much like Kelce did with Swift.
The references were so obvious that viewers couldn’t help but laugh at how clearly the film borrowed from the couple’s relationship.

One said, "I watched this movie yesterday. It was awful. Like really bad."
Another added, "I tried but twenty minutes was more than enough."
Despite the polarized reactions, the film clearly struck a chord with Swift's fanbase, especially considering its premise. Bowyn, much like Swift, is a famous celebrity who has yet to find her perfect match. That is, until she meets Drew.
