Taylor Swift fans accuse AMAs of muting cheers for absent singer in live broadcast: 'Blatant disrespect'

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: While pop icon Taylor Swift skipped the 2025 American Music Awards red carpet held at Fontainebleau Las Vegas on Monday, May 26, her fans accused the organizers of muting cheers for the absent singer during a live broadcast of the nomination announcement.

Swift had opted out of red carpet appearances and yet still accepted awards via video, due to which, some fans were optimistic she would make a virtual appearance. 

However, the singer did not make any appearance. 



 

Taylor Swift loses awards in six categories at 2025 AMAs 

The 'Love Story' singer was nominated in six categories for her 11th studio album, 'The Tortured Poets Department'. She was nominated for Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Favorite Touring Artist, Collaboration of the Year, Favorite Female Pop Artist, and Favorite Pop Album, according to Daily Mail

Interestingly, Swift holds the record for most AMA wins with 40, including seven wins for Artist of the Year. However, she failed to secure any new wins in this year's AMAs.

The 2025 AMA was hosted by Jennifer Lopez, who last hosted the event in 2015, a decade ago. The event featured performances from Blake Shelton, Gloria Estefan, Gwen Stefani, Lainey Wilson, and Benson Boone, per the outlet.

Meanwhile, Janet Jackson got the Icon Award during the festivities, while Rod Stewart was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.



 

Many A-listers were there to present the big wins, including comedians Nikki Glaser and Tiffany Haddish, actor Wayne Brady, model Cara Delevingne, pop star Ciara, streamer Kai Cenat, and singers Megan Moroney and Shaboozey, Daily Mail reported.

Swifties accuse AMAs 2025 of muting cheers for Taylor Swift during live broadcast 

An X (formerly Twitter) user shared a viral video from the AMAs of the Artist of the Year announcement and wrote, "AMAs muting the cheers when Taylor was announced was so nasty and disrespectful."

"This is how you treat your most awarded AMA artist??" they asked. The viral clip racked up more than 281,500 views. 



 

After the clip went viral, many Taylor Swift fans slammed the 2025 AMAs and accused the organizers of muting cheers for the absent singer during the live broadcast. 

A user wrote on X, "The AMAs deciding to mute how loud the audience was cheering for taylor is f****** embarrassing on their part #amasisoverparty."



 

One person asked, "Why would they feel the need to silence the cheers for Taylor? That was blatant disrespect," whereas another expressed, "WE LOVE YOU TAYLOR!!!! Y’all have got a lot of explaining to do about muting the crowd cheering for Taylor@AMAs."



 



 

One individual remarked, "They definitely muted Taylor when she showed up wtf," while another commented, "They cheered the loudest for Taylor yet we couldn’t hear it on the broadcast."



 



 

Someone else asked, "It was so loud for taylor there!!! @AMAs care to explain why only cheering for her got muted?" while another added, "The AMAs really muted when people cheered for taylor, this says everything we need to know."
