'Lil Bit' rapper Nelly arrested in Missouri for possessing 4 ecstasy pills and not having insurance
ST LOUIS, MISSOURI: Rapper Nelly was arrested in St Louis over possession of four ecstasy pills.
On Wednesday morning, August 7, the ‘Lil Bit’ crooner was taken into custody, confirmed Missouri State Highway Patrol.
What triggered the authorities to search Nelly?
The 49-year-old was arrested inside the Hollywood Casino in St Charles, Missouri, at 4:45 am. An identification-verification check was run on the three-time Grammy winner, according to a spokesperson for highway patrol.
It is a regular process practiced in accordance with Missouri gaming commission regulations.
Highway patrol first found an outstanding warrant for lack of insurance from a previous highway stop. Later, they searched Nelly (whose birth name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr.) and found the ecstasy pills on him, reports New York Post.
The spokesperson further revealed that highway patrol was already onsite at the casino, in accordance with the Missouri Gaming Commission’s regulations.
The verification check can be carried out in various situations, however, it is unlikely that the search was conducted over any suspected criminal activity on Nelly’s part.
The ‘My Place’ singer was booked at the Maryland Heights Police Department and was later released.
