KERRVILLE, TEXAS: As catastrophic flash floods ravaged Central Texas and left countless homes in ruins, Ted Cruz was reportedly vacationing away from the chaos engulfing his home state.

The 54-year-old Republican senator was spotted in Athens, Greece, with his wife Heidi Cruz, on Saturday, July 5, just a day after the Guadalupe River burst its banks as a deadly storm dumped 12 inches of rain on the Texas Hill Country.

The flash flooding described as "100 year catastrophe" has reportedly claimed the lives of more than 104 people, including at least 27 young girls from Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian summer camp tucked along the South Fork of the Guadalupe River.

Ted Cruz spotted at the Parthenon as Texas flash flood swept away dozens

According to a report by The Daily Beast, the senator arrived in Athens on July 3, to take a brief break after voting to pass President Donald Trump’s much-hyped "big, beautiful bill."

Two days later, he raised eyebrows among vacationers as he and his wife were spotted with security lining up outside to visit the Parthenon, a fifth-century BC Greek temple on July 5, at about 6 pm local time (11 am ET).

“He was with his family and a lone security guard,” an eyewitness at the Parthenon told the Daily Beast, adding, “As he walked past us, I simply said, ‘20 kids dead in Texas and you take a vacation?’”

“He sort of grunted and walked on. His wife shot me a dirty look. Then they continued with their tour guide,” the eyewitness continued.

Cruz finally returned to Texas on July 7, when he joined a press briefing to inform reporters that he had contacted the president and local officials within hours of the floods to request supplies and support for the town.

“In the first few hours of this flood, I was on the phone with Governor Abbott, was on the phone with Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, I was on the phone with Nim Kidd, the head of the Texas Department of Emergency Management, and then I called President Trump,” said Cruz on Monday.

Ted Cruz's communications director says he returned to Texas ‘as fast as humanly possible’

The Texas Republican’s communications director, Macarena Martinez, responded to The Daily Beast's report and accused the outlet of having “no regard for the tragedy in Texas.”

“A bull**** piece published by a bull**** rag outlet with no credibility, and with no regard for the tragedy in Texas,” Martinez said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“The Senator is on the ground in Texas and arrived as fast as humanly possible. I explained all of this to their two-faced reporter,” she insisted.

This isn't the first time Cruz has been caught vacationing during a crisis. In 2021, he drew widespread criticism for taking a family trip to Cancun, Mexico, while a brutal winter storm left millions of Texans without power, heat, or water.

Ted Cruz picked his daughter from a camp just down the road from Camp Mystic last week

Following his return to Texas, Tex Cruz appeared live on 'Fox & Friends' from Kerrville, Texas, in the area worst hit by the disaster.

“There aren’t words to describe the grief that Texans are feeling. Pray for Texas and Kerr County,” he said during the broadcast.

He also revealed that he picked up his own daughter, Catherine, from a camp just down the road from Camp Mystic.

“We picked up our youngest daughter [Catherine] last week from camp, five miles away,” the senator told the reporter.

“I will tell you I’ve been speaking to moms and dads, number one, of kids who are still missing and the agony of not knowing where your daughter is — there’s nothing like that,” he added.

Internet blasts Ted Cruz for vacationing abroad during Texas flooding

As photos from Ted Cruz's Greece trip started making rounds on the internet, angered social media users fiercely bashed the senator for vacationing abroad as flash flood tore through Texas.

One user blasted, "Does he ever work? Geeze, always on vacation! Loser!" while another added, "Where is ICE when you need them? Deport him."

"When are people going to realize that their constituents don't care what they do or don't do because they continue to reelect them," a person slammed.

Someone else remarked, "He always seems to conveniently be on vacation during disasters. Wasn't he in Mexico on vacation during the Great Texas power outage?" while one more wrote "Wow nice of him to take time away from his tax payer vacation with all his family members who I’m sure have figured out a way to get paid with tax payer money just like all politicians on both sides."

"He's always on vacations during TX emergencies !!" another person remarked.
