HOUSTON, TEXAS: Senator Ted Cruz jumped on social media this week and slammed the big news networks and newspapers.

He accused them of ignoring an independent investigation into alleged fraud in Minnesota.

According to Cruz, a 23-year-old YouTuber, Nick Shirley is out there doing “more real news” than the top US outlets.

Cruz’s tweet referenced a self-produced, 42-minute investigation by YouTuber Nick Shirley, who says he and his team exposed alleged welfare and childcare fraud in Minnesota.

In a post on X, Cruz jumped in, talking about Nick Shirley’s investigation.

He wrote, “Worth watching EVERY MINUTE of this. Why is a 23-year-old YouTuber doing more real news than ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, WaPo & NYT…COMBINED?”

“Where is 60 Minutes when you need them?” he asked, pushing back on what he characterized as a media blackout of the claims.

Cruz also retweeted a post on X that mentioned that the mainstream newspapers lacked real coverage of news that mattered and how a young YouTuber covered more than big media agencies.

Cruz wrote “professional liars” to slam these agencies.

What does Nick Shirley’s investigation say?

Shirley’s video has been all over social media lately, especially on X.

He zeroes in on daycare centers and other licensed places that are supposed to get government money in Minnesota, but honestly, they don’t seem to be doing much of anything.

In some shots, you see childcare centers with locked doors, no lights on, and not a single kid around. Still, these places are licensed to serve a bunch of children and keep getting hefty payments from the government.

He made claims accusing state agencies of overlooking clear red flags while vast sums were allegedly funnelled through childcare, transportation, and healthcare programs that largely existed only on paper.

In the video, Nick questions officers about where the money is actually going. At one point, Shirley asserts, “This could be the largest fraud scandal in US history,” claiming that state and federal funds were diverted to businesses with little or no sign of real operations.

Shirley, along with a local investigator identified only as David, said, “I would pass these childcare centers during the day and never see any kids,” he explains. “That’s when I started wondering, where are these children?”

In a post on X, Nick said, “Here is the full 42 minutes of my crew and I exposing Minnesota fraud; this might be my most important work yet. We uncovered over $110,000,000 in ONE day.”
