WASHINGTON, DC: Texas Senator Ted Cruz has garnered a wave of support from his followers after condemning Democratic states for not prosecuting pro-Palestinian protesters amid the ongoing Israeli-Hamas war, Newsweek reported.

Cruz voiced his disapproval on his podcast 'Verdict' on Monday, June 24, specifically targeting Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's decision to drop charges against several protesters in New York.

Last week, Bragg dismissed charges against dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters who had barricaded themselves inside a building at Columbia University in April.

According to Doug Cohen, a spokesperson for the district attorney, the charges were dropped against 32 individuals due to insufficient evidence in identifying the suspects.

However, charges against 13 other defendants remain active as they refused a plea deal which would have seen the charges dismissed if they avoided any further arrests for six months. One individual faces additional criminal mischief and arson charges and is not affiliated with Columbia.

Cruz criticized this decision, using it as an example to highlight what he sees as a broader issue of Democratic states failing to prosecute criminal activities associated with protests.

"There are consequences when you elect Democrats. I will say one of the talking points you see among some Democrats is, 'Well, it's terrible what's happening on campuses, but there is nothing we can do about it,' and let's be clear. This happens in blue states that elect Democrats and put Democrats in charge," he stated.

Cruz contrasted the actions of Democratic states with those of Republican-led states, arguing that the GOP is more committed to law enforcement.

"The Democrats you elected and put in charge, they support the radicals and they refuse to prosecute them. You know what, you do that in Texas, you do that in Florida, you do that in Georgia, you do that in Alabama, you will be arrested and you will be prosecuted. There is a consequence if you elect Republicans who actually believe in prosecuting criminals," he asserted.

This stance comes as college students nationwide engage in both pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian protests following the outbreak of the Israeli-Hamas war. The conflict intensified after Hamas, a Palestinian militant group, launched its deadliest attack on Israel on October 7.

Israel responded with counterattacks on Gaza, killing nearly 37,598 individuals with an additional 86,032 individuals sustaining injuries, Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported

Protesters across the United States have been calling for a ceasefire amid the rising death toll in Gaza, which includes a significant number of civilian casualties.

Ted Cruz's argument against Democratic states resonates online

Ted Cruz's argument against Democratic states resonated with many people on social media, who expressed their agreement with his viewpoint.

One X user said, "Protesting is fine. The violence and intimidation tactics of pro-Palestinian protesters is unacceptable. They need to be prosecuted."

While another claimed, "They are giving aid and comfort to terrorists. This means that they have given aid and comfort to enemies of the US, and therefore committed treason, as per the 14th Amendment Section 3."

Another person wrote, "Prosecuting crime isn’t high on the list for progressive DA’s. Their job is more about heavily biased and partisan politics."

Another said, "All Hamas terrorist supporters should be deported to Gaza."

One individual commented, "If they break the law they have to be prosecuted Senator."

Another added, "@tedcruz be strong and of good courage."

One person wrote, "Every one that commits violence or damages property, regardless of political views should be prosecuted. We are a nation of laws and NO ONE is above the law."
