BROOKLYN, NEW YORK: During the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) promotion ceremony on Thursday, March 7, New York Attorney General Letitia James faced a hostile crowd as she delivered her speech, per the New York Post.

As she walked onto the podium at the Christian Cultural Center's Brooklyn Campus, attendees, including the families of captains, battalion chiefs, civilians, and firefighters, began to jeer and chant "Trump," as captured in video footage of the event.

“Oh, come on. We’re in a house of God. First, Uhm, simmer down,” James remarked, urging the crowd to calm down before acknowledging, “Thank you for getting it out of your system.”

What did NY AG Letitia James’ speech on Thursday entail?

As Attorney General James began her address, the boos gave way to chants in support of former President Donald Trump.

The crowd erupted in cries of "Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump."

James, whose office recently secured a $454 million civil fraud judgment against Trump, proceeded with her speech, offering prayers for "those men and women who exemplify true courage."

“Some may even be here. Some might even be booing me. But nonetheless, I pray for them,” she asserted.

During the promotion ceremony, Rev Pamela Holmes was sworn in as the chaplain of the FDNY.

Attorney General James congratulated the 65 uniformed members from Fire Operations, EMS Operations, and the Bureau of Fire Investigation who were being promoted in Thursday’s event.

Interestingly, the presence of James, an elected official, was somewhat unusual, given that traditionally, the New York City mayor has been invited to speak at the promotion ceremony.

A Brooklyn firefighter who attended Thursday's event but requested anonymity related the crowd's visceral reaction to the recent case against Donald Trump, which the 77-year-old MAGA figurehead claimed was a politically motivated "witch hunt."

“She has no problem, bragging that she convicted Trump, so this is how hard-working New Yorkers, who put their life on the line, feel about her actions,” the firefighter shared with the aforementioned outlet.

James had recently teased the former president about the growing attention on the landmark judgment, which purportedly accrues approximately $1 million every nine days.

FDNY Chief of Department John Hodgens described the taunts as an "embarrassment" and "not befitting of the world's best fire department."

“Today’s ceremony was about one thing: the accomplishments of the members being promoted,” Hodgens stated.

Steven Cheung, a Trump campaign spokesman, blasted the attorney general as "an embarrassment to the people of New York."

Cheung issued a statement where he said, “The rank and file of the FDNY know they have no greater friend than President Trump. The President is honored by, and grateful for their very vocal support.”

Donald Trump, along with his two sons and company, has been found liable by a Manhattan judge for inflating the value of assets on financial statements to banks and insurers.

In a bid to appeal the case, Trump has been ordered by the court to pay $454 million, including interest, to stay the colossal judgment.

An appeals court has allowed Trump to remain in charge of the family business and ask for loans from New York banks to help finance the bond.

AG James has already threatened to request a judge to seize Trump's assets, including some of his cherished Empire State buildings if the judgment is not stayed and he fails to settle what he owes.
