NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former President Donald Trump, 77, has ignited a fresh controversy by accusing New York Attorney General Letitia James of colluding with President Joe Biden to "illegally" prosecute him in the ongoing civil fraud trial.

The claims surfaced on Thursday, January 11, as Trump utilized his Truth Social platform to showcase White House logs indicating three visits by James between April 2022 and August 2023.

"Radical Marxist New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) visited the Biden White House three times between April 2022 and August 2023, according to White House visitor logs," Trump asserted alongside the screenshots.

He emphasized, "The purpose of the visit was to illegally coordinate the prosecution of your favorite President, me! This is the Greatest Witch Hunt of all time, but we will win and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Lawsuit's background

The backdrop of this accusation is James' $250 million lawsuit against Trump in 2022, alleging business fraud related to misrepresentations of the net worth of Mar-a-Lago and other assets in financial documents. Trump has consistently claimed the lawsuit is politically motivated, aimed at influencing his potential 2024 presidential campaign, OK! Magazine reported.

Outside the New York courtroom on Thursday, Trump labeled the case as "election interference at the highest level" orchestrated with "the White House and Joe Biden."

"It is indeed a terrible witch hunt," he told the crowd of reporters. "As you know, I want to speak, I want to make this summation. At this moment, the judge is not letting me make this summation because I’ll bring up things that he doesn’t want to hear. And it’s a very unfair trial, nobody’s seen anything like this."

"We have a situation where a statute was used that doesn’t give me a jury," he continued. "I really have no rights, and it’s sad. And nobody, nobody thinks it’s constitutional, people. Legal scholars are writing about it like it’s something they’ve never seen before. So it’s interference, it’s political interference, and it’s something that shouldn’t be allowed."

Trump insisted that the case was "very unfair" and the trial was "very bad for New York state."

"Companies are fleeing, people are fleeing, the streets are crime-ridden. And Letitia James, that’s all she thinks about is ‘Get Trump,'" he added. "She’s been dreaming about it for years. And it’s, you know, it’s not the way the state should be run, because it’s a state that’s been in big trouble."

Social media echoes Trump's claims

On social media, reactions flooded in after the White House logs were revealed.

"It’s all rigged and a sham. The judiciary in this country is so compromised," one posted on X (formerly Twitter).

"CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY TO STOP TRUMP!" another wrote.

"Collusion," a comment read.

"Had to make sure the marching orders were carefully crafted," someone else added.

"Not shocked but further confirmation of this witch hunt!" another chimed in.

Courtroom exchange

Inside the courtroom, Trump, barred from delivering a formal closing argument, seized an opportunity to speak at the conclusion of his fraud trial. He unleashed a barrage of attacks in a six-minute diatribe, insisting he was "an innocent man" persecuted for political reasons, ABC7 reported.

"We have a situation where I am an innocent man," Trump protested. "I'm being persecuted by someone running for office and I think you have to go outside the bounds."

"This is a fraud on me. What's happened here, sir, is a fraud on me," Trump said, before accusing Judge Arthur Engoron of not listening and claiming, "I know this is boring to you."

"Control your client," Engoron warned Trump's attorney. The judge then allowed Trump to speak briefly, and after a minute, adjourned the proceedings.
