ATLANTA, GEORGIA: 'The Braxtons' star Towanda Braxton opened up about her health struggles and revealed the real reason behind her rocking bald look. She disclosed she has alopecia and was struggling with it even when her sister Traci Braxton was alive.

Towanda and the rest of her sisters decided to shave their heads in solidarity with Traci Braxton, who died in March 2022 after a battle with esophageal cancer.

Towanda Braxton reveals why she decided to go bald

During the recent season premiere of 'The Braxtons', Towanda Braxton and her sister, Trina Braxton, had a candid conversation over lunch where they discussed why Towanda shaved her head during their show's four-year hiatus.

In the scene, Towanda said many of their fans were worried about her health after she carried a bald look. While Towanda had earlier informed fans that she went bald to support Traci, she revealed on the show that it was because she had alopecia.

She said, "I hadn't exactly told the world that I have alopecia. A lot of people assume a lot of different things. I took pride in how I looked and, I have to be honest, I didn't think about my body."

She added, "It was what was going on on the inside. And that was 'oh my gosh, people are going to know I have alopecia'."

Towanda also said that it was Traci who convinced her to go bald. She told Trina, "I am who I am, you accept me, or you just don't accept me."

During an interview with People, Towanda said, "I always knew that my hair was different. I always knew that it was something. I had a whole bunch of cowlicks growing up my hairline. My hairline was like here… and then it would grow back."

She added, "For everyone else who’s going through the same journey … it’s OK, and your hair does not define who you are."

What is alopecia?
