‘The View’ host Whoopi Goldberg slams Trump’s $5K baby bonus proposal to tackle declining birth rates

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Donald Trump administration is reportedly weighing a proposal to offer Americans $5,000 to have more children.
During the Wednesday, April 23 episode of 'The View', host Whoopi Goldberg immediately criticized the idea.

'The View' hosts clash as Whoopi Goldberg blasts Donald Trump's $5,000 baby bonus
Whoopi Goldberg used a mocking tone to introduce the topic, signaling her frustration, and made it clear she saw the proposal as out of touch with the real-world costs of childbirth and raising a child.

Speaking on the show, Goldberg said, “I am incredibly insulted by this, because they clearly, they don’t know how women’s bodies work, and they don’t know what it costs to raise a child, or just have a child.”
She continued, “$5,000? I don’t know what $5,000 is supposed to do. And it’s not even $5,000, because you have to cut it in half because you got to pay taxes on it. So they’re offering you $2,500 to have a baby.”
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin pointed out that the exact tax amount would vary depending on the person’s tax bracket and said she supported the idea.
She added that “some money was better than no money,” to which Goldberg responded firmly, “No, not in this case. No,” per The Wrap.

Whoopi Goldberg highlights past cuts to food aid and child protection under Donald Trump administration
Whoopi Goldberg then shifted focus to past funding cuts made under the Trump administration.
“$1 billion in funding for schools and food banks, to buy food, was cut,” she stated. “Withdrew funding for investigating child sexual abuse and internet crimes against children, cut. Fired the entire staff running a program to help low-income households pay their heating and cooling bills. Now, these families already exist!”

She argued that offering a bonus to increase the birth rate would only make sense if the government didn’t cut programs that help families already raising children.
“If you want people to have children, you have to not scare them by cutting all these programs that they may need,” Goldberg added.
Whoopi Goldberg rejects idea of being paid to have children
Before the segment ended, Whoopi Goldberg circled back to how unrealistic the $5,000 incentive seemed in practice.
“I am insulted by that amount, because you can’t even go to the hospital for $5,000 for goodness sakes,” Goldberg said.
She also told Griffin, "I don't like the idea that somebody is saying I'm gonna pay you to have more kids."
She said, "My point is this administration seems to be telling people not to have [children]. She added, "Why not make sure that kids we already have, have a shot at good schooling?"
