'His supporters will be able to run faster': 'The View' hosts mock Donald Trump after his sneakers launch
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin discussed Donald Trump launching his line of sneakers at the Hot Topics table on the February 20 episode of 'The View'.
The former president's announcement of the new business venture came a day after he was sentenced to $355 million in a civil fraud case by the New York Supreme Court.
Donald Trump's sneaker line launch
According to CNN, the business tycoon unveiled 'Trump Sneakers' on February 17 at Sneaker Con in Philadelphia, an event which Goldberg jibed as "appropriately titled." The host added that Trump "wasted no time to make other people pay his bills," referring to the timing of the announcement.
“This is something I’ve been talking about for 12 years, 13 years, and I think it’s going to be a big success,” said Trump at the launch, as he placed a pair of gold sneakers on the podium. The publication reported the pair to be named 'NEVER SURRENDER HIGH-TOP SNEAKER' and is priced at $399.
The sneakers were reportedly sold out on a new website on the very same day. Two more versions of the footwear are up for sale, having a 'T' and '45' on the sides, which are priced at $199. It is clearly stated on the website that “trademarks of CIC Ventures LLC. Trump Sneakers are not designed, manufactured, distributed or sold by Donald J Trump, The Trump Organization or any of their respective affiliates or principals. 45Footwear, LLC uses the Trump name, image and likeness under a license agreement.”
'The View' hosts react to Trump Sneakers
As Goldberg opened the topic for discussion, Behar was quick to quip in, "Well, maybe his supporters who buy them will be able to run faster from the Capitol Police in these sneakers," referring to the insurrection of January 6, 2021.
"But Joe Biden, in the meantime, while Trump was trying to raise money on sneakers, ... raises $43 million over the weekend for his campaign, so..." she added with a shrug.
"I am going to be petty just for a second," stated Hostin, picking up the conversation. "Those shoes are a knock-off of Gucci shoes."
She asked for pictures of both to be put up on screen for comparison.
"And it got red bottoms which means Louis Vuitton," Goldberg pointed out off-camera.
"So I am wondering if he (Trump) has some more civil suits headed his way for perhaps trademark infringement," continued Hostin slyly. "Just giving some ideas to some attorneys."
