NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Whoopi Goldberg slammed Democrats for forcing out Joe Biden from the 2024 presidential race, in the presence of the incumbent on the September 25 episode of 'The View.'

Biden was in New York, where the show is filmed, to give his final address at the United Nations General Assembly the previous day. On Wednesday, he became the first sitting POTUS to appear live on the ABC talk show, which also marked his 10th appearance in all.

Sitting alongside Goldberg and her co-hosts Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Joy Behar, and Alyssa Farah Griffin, Biden carried a breezy conversation that covered personal and political topics.

Whoopi Goldberg's views on Biden being forced out of presidential race

While Whoopi Goldberg wholeheartedly supported Democratic nominee Kamala Harris for the top job in the country, she vented her anger in the way Biden, whom she described as her "ride or die" candidate, was forced to step out of the race, after facing public humiliation.

“I didn’t like the way they did it,” she stated on the show. "I’m going to just say it out loud because nobody says it out loud. I didn’t like the way it was done publicly."

"I thought they could have done this in a different way because we didn’t need to hear all the inner fighting. I didn’t like it, I’m saying it to you, you were my ride or die. I was going where — wherever you were going, that was where I was going," she added.

Why did Joe Biden step down from presidential race?

Earlier this year, Biden became the presumptive Democratic nominee securing the necessary support in the primaries. However, at 81 years, he would have been the oldest person in US history to run for President.

He made multiple gaffes on different public occasions, which drew strong criticism from the GOP. However, following his abysmal performance against the GOP nominee and former President Donald Trump in the June presidential debate, even Democrats began to publicly call him out, citing concerns about his mental acuity.

As such, Biden finally paid heed to his critics in July and suspended his campaign. He endorsed Vice President Harris in his stead, and she was declared the official nominee of the Democratic Party at their national convention in August.
