'They keep downsizing': 'The View' hosts hit with reported pay cuts, wardrobe downgrade

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ABC’s long-running daytime talk show 'The View' is reportedly facing a financial squeeze, with fresh claims suggesting that cost-cutting behind the scenes is beginning to impact everything from the hosts’ pay to what appears on screen.

According to a new report by Page Six published Wednesday, July 22, the tightening budget has led to growing frustration among the panel as the network continues to scale back spending ahead of the next season.

The report cited a source saying, “They’re all mad because they were all wearing really expensive designer clothes, and now it’s the same budget of a Wendy Williams-type show versus a marquee daytime show. They keep downsizing and downsizing and downsizing.”

Multiple insiders cited in the report claim that all current co-hosts have felt the effects of the latest cost-cutting measures introduced since season 29 began.

While longtime moderator Whoopi Goldberg is still reportedly the highest-paid on the panel with a multimillion-dollar salary, others are said to have seen far less favorable outcomes.

The report further alleges that Alyssa Farah Griffin, who joined the show in 2022, was denied a significant pay raise when she sought one, and is believed to be earning in the mid-six-figure range well below Goldberg’s reported compensation.

According to the outlet, the financial tightening has also impacted annual raises for other co-hosts, including Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, and Ana Navarro, though specific salary figures were not revealed.

ABC has not publicly responded to the reported claims.

Wardrobes and sets downgraded post cuts

The reported cost-cutting is also said to extend beyond salaries.

According to the report, wardrobe budgets for the hosts have been significantly reduced, marking a shift away from the designer labels long associated with the show.

One insider claimed the clothing allowance now aligns more closely with that of a smaller daytime program rather than a flagship panel show.

The financial adjustments are also believed to be affecting production decisions. The show has reportedly shifted to a more cost-effective studio space.

At the same time, its annual Halloween episode, typically known for elaborate costumes and themed sets, is said to have been scrapped this year as part of broader spending cuts.

The report further suggests that branded deals and sponsored segments have become less frequent, with some advertisers allegedly turning their attention to competing daytime shows.

Since its debut in 1997, 'The View' has remained one of the most recognizable names in American daytime television, maintaining its presence for nearly three decades.

Created by veteran broadcaster Barbara Walters, the panel show has featured a rotating lineup of prominent hosts while continuing to blend politics, entertainment, and cultural conversation.

The current panel includes Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin, with Brian Teta serving as executive producer.
