‘This one has hit hard’: Internet mourns as ‘Titanic’ actor Bernard Hill dies at 79
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Legendary actor Bernard Hill died on Sunday, May 5, at age 79.
The star played Captain Edward Smith in the iconic ‘Titanic’ movie in 1997, and also featured in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy as Theoden, King of Rohan.
Hill’s death was confirmed by his agent, Lou Coulson. Coulson also shared that Hill's fiancee Alison and his son Gabriel were beside him, reports FoxNews.

Billy Boyd reacted to the death on Sunday, and remembered Bernard, "I don't think anyone spoke Tolkien's words as great as Bernard did. He would break my heart. He will be solely missed."
Sean Astin added, “We love him. He was intrepid, he was funny, he was gruff, he was irascible, he was beautiful."
The writer of ‘Boys from Blackstuff,’ Alan Bleasdale said, “[It’s]great loss and also a great surprise."
"It was an astonishing, mesmeric performance - Bernard gave everything to that and you can see it in all the scenes. He became Yosser Hughes."
"I was desperate to work with him. Everything he did - his whole procedure for working, the manner in which he worked and his performance was everything that you could ever wish for,” he said, per BBC.
"You always felt that Bernard would live forever. He had great strength, physically and of personality," added Bleasdale.
Bernard Hill’s first full-fledged role was in the 1996 film ‘The Ghost and the Darkness,’ with Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer in the lead. The next year he landed ‘Titanic,’ followed by ‘The Scorpion King,’ alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
