Tim Allen reveals much darker original script of Christmas classic 'The Santa Clause' to Jimmy Fallon
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a recent segment of 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,' beloved actor Tim Allen made a surprising revelation about iconic holiday movie 'The Santa Clause'.
The spotlight was on the original script of the iconic Christmas movie as Allen disclosed a rather unconventional storyline: he was initially scripted to shoot Santa Claus.
The movie, released in 1994, became an instant holiday classic, enchanting audiences with its heartwarming narrative and Allen's endearing portrayal of Scott Calvin, an ordinary man who unexpectedly becomes Santa Claus.
However, in the newfound revelation, Allen divulged that the initial script took a darker turn, presenting a rather grim scenario for jolly old St Nick.
Tim Allen's revelation and Disney's 'The Santa Clause' evolution
During Fallon's show, a clip was shared where Tim Allen discussed the original premise of 'The Santa Clause.' He humorously recounted the shocking plot twist that involved his character, Scott Calvin, inadvertently causing Santa's demise.
"The original clip is wriiten by two comedians and I was crying and laughing so hard," he said.
He recalled a pivotal moment when Jeffrey Katzenberg, then at Disney, expressed interest in having Allen lead the film.
"And at that point, Jeffrey Katzenberg headed Disney and said 'we are gonna get you to do the movie where we are gonna change a few things.' I go 'no no, it's the best script I ever read'".
Allen further continued, saying, "[Katzenberg said] 'We can't begin a Disney movie, Tim, with you murdering Santa Claus'. And I said, 'Why not? You killed all the parents in all your other movies.'"
The notion of a Christmas movie centering around Santa Claus getting shot certainly deviated from the heartwarming and family-friendly themes that made 'The Santa Clause' a perennial favorite.
