Tim Dillon slams Zohran Mamdani as 'theater kid' for attacking Trump in victory speech
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Tim Dillon said he wasn't bothered by Zohran Mamdani's win in the New York City mayoral election, but he did take issue with the mayor-elect's acceptance speech.
The comedian, during his recent episode of ‘The Tim Dillon Show’, ridiculed the 34-year-old democratic socialist for one particular line aimed at President Donald Trump just hours after he was elected on Tuesday night.
Tim Dillon hopes Zohran Mamdani keeps his 'theater kid' antics at bay
Tim Dillon described Zohran Mamdani's speech as a bit "cringe," attributing it to a "theater kid" persona. "He was a little cringe in his speech, because he’s like a theater kid," he said.
The comedian said that there was one point during the speech where "you could see the theater kid in him. You could see that kind of cringe, you know, that theater kid-like just very unappealing side of him. Hopefully, he keeps that at bay."
Dillon's remarks appeared to be directed at the part of Mamdani's speech where he told the president to "turn up the volume" and "Hear me: to get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us."
Trump later called that portion of Mamdani's speech "dangerous" and "angry."
While the democratic socialist does come from a family of performers, his mother is filmmaker Mira Nair and he briefly tried his hand at rap, there have been no reports of him performing on stage.
The "theater kid" insult might have stemmed from a mix-up following a report from The Washington Free Beacon that described Mamdani's top strategist, Morris Katz, as a "nepo baby theater kid."
Tim Dillon says the economy drove Zohran Mamdani's win
Discussing the election outcome itself, Tim Dillon also provided an explanation of Zohran Mamdani's victory against the likes of Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa.
The Long Island native claimed Mamdani "obviously" won because "people don’t have money. It’s pretty simple."
Dillon shared a personal stance on Mamdani. He summed it up: "Here’s my attitude with this guy: there’s a lot to not like. But if it does not work, I will just leave, because I do not care."
Tim Dillon's take on Zohran Mamdani's progressive stance on crime and policing
Tim Dillon also addressed the fears voiced by some of Zohran Mamdani’s critics, who predicted that the mayor-elect's progressive ideas about crime, defunding the police, and closing Rikers Island would turn New York City into a lawless libertarian free-for-all.
Dillon expressed skepticism toward that kind of extreme projection, but said that if the situation comes to that, he'll stay for a few months and then "skedaddle."
