EAU CLAIRE, WISCONSIN: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is reportedly taking "great pleasure" in the declining stock value of Elon Musk's Tesla, despite the company's role in employing thousands of Americans.

Walz admitted to checking the stock as a mood booster and even joked about Musk's struggles.

After the claims, Walz was criticized by Musk, who tweeted a joke involving JD Vance, sparking a flurry of online reactions and comments about the exchange between the two.

During a town hall in Wisconsin on Tuesday, March 18, Governor Tim Walz opened up about how he checks Tesla’s stock value to lift his spirits.

At the time, Tesla’s stock had plummeted over 40% in 2025. Walz joked, "Some of you know this, on the iPhone, they’ve got that little stock app. I added Tesla to it to give me a little boost during the day — $225 and dropping."

He added, "And if you own one, we’re not blaming you. You can take dental floss and pull the Tesla thing off."

Walz also remarked, "I’m not a vindictive person or anything but I take great pleasure in the fact that this guy’s life is going to get very, very difficult."

For context, Tesla employed 47,000 people in California by 2022 and was also the third-largest employer in Austin, Texas, with nearly 23,000 workers.

Elon Musk fires back at Tim Walz's claims about Tesla's stock decline

In response to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s remarks, Elon Musk fired back with a sharp tweet.

The tech billionaire subtly remarked, "Sometimes when I need a little boost, I look at the @JDVance portrait in the @WhiteHouse and thank the Lord 🙏."

The post appeared to show Musk celebrating the victory of President Donald Trump and Vice President Vance over Democratic nominees Kamala Harris and Walz. Interestingly, according to Forbes, Musk's net worth is approximately 300,000 times greater than Walz's.

With a staggering $321.4 billion fortune, Musk's wealth primarily comes from his investments in Tesla and his private aerospace company, SpaceX, while Walz has a much smaller fortune of just over $1 million.

Internet slams Tim Walz for his remark on Tesla

In just one day after Elon Musk posted the tweet on X, it gained over 20.5 million views and received 18,000 comments about the exchange between the two.

One user wrote, "Thanks for putting a nail in the coffin of your chances of holding a national office."

A person slammed Walz, "Only a loser celebrates an American company losing stock value. All say is...BUYING OPPORTUNITY! Knowing Congress's ability to outperform the market, I look forward to seeing Pelosi buy Tesla stock."

Another shared, "You're a complete loser Tim Walz. You are a complete loser! 🫶🏻"

A comment wrote, "Tim Walz personally putting the last shovel of dirt onto the Democratic Party’s grave."

An X user advised Musk, "Rooting for people to lose money. America dodged a bullet with you."

An individual expressed support for Musk, "Thanks for all you do. I have Tesla stocks. Thinking of buying more to show my support!!"

Another said, "A tiny, petty man consumed by envy & insecurity, & burdened by the knowledge that nobody will remember his name in 30 years. That's what I see, Tim."
