Tish Cyrus reveals she ‘wanted to make it work’ with Billy Ray Cyrus and did not wish ‘to be divorced’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tish Cyrus is reflecting on her marriage and subsequent divorce with ex-husband Billy Ray Cyrus.
Appearing on the Monday, November 25, episode of Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson‘s ‘Sibling Revelry’ podcast, Tish, 57, revealed that she wasn’t ready to let go of her marriage until she absolutely had to.
Miley Cyrus and Noah Cyrus’ mother was married to Billy Ray from 1993 until their divorce in 2022. Now, she is opening up about her marriage with the country singer.
Tish Cyrus shares she never wanted to get divorced
“I never wanted to be divorced,” shared Tish during the interview, revealing that her parents’ decades-long marriage served as an inspiration behind a lifelong union, according to US Weekly.
“[But] for us, you’re in the public eye, and the world that we exist in is already so odd, and at some times unstable,” she continued, before emphasizing, “I wanted to make it work, probably for a little too long, like, for my own mental health.”
Nevertheless, the situation didn’t agree, as she shared, “There became a point that, like, I didn’t have a choice.”
She further added that their 2022 divorce was “tough on everyone”, including the former couple’s children, even though they were all adults.
Together, they welcomed daughters Miley Cyrus and Noah Cyrus, and son Braison Cyrus, however, the ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ singer also adopted Tish’s two children from a previous relationship -- daughter Brandi Cyrus and son Trace Cyrus.
It is important to note here that the exes filed for divorce twice before in 2010 and 2013, but reconciled nonetheless.
Referencing her upbringing, Tish said, “I was an only child and had the best upbringing and best parents and never went through anything like that. So I don’t really know how it affects you, but… it was definitely something that was probably hard on them, no matter how you do it.”
“And I think that we did it really well,” Tish noted, before continuing, “I think I did really well, and I do think that I just wanted it to be the easiest as possible for everyone involved.”
Tish Cyrus has moved on from Billy Ray Cyrus
Following their separation in April 2022, Tish Cyrus started dating ‘Prison Break’ star Dominic Purcell in July that year.
The couple, after dating for a year, tied the knot in August 2023.
Billy Ray, too, moved on with singer Firerose and tied the knot in October 2023. However, they separated earlier this year after the ‘Some Gave All’ singer filed for an annulment from Firerose, citing irreconcilable differences and “inappropriate marital conduct.”
