Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' daughter Suri officially drops father's last name
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ daughter, Suri, 20, has legally dropped the last name Cruise and now uses the surname Noelle, according to voter registration records obtained and first reported by Page Six.
The change comes after Suri had already begun using the name publicly during her high school graduation in 2024. Cruise and Holmes welcomed Suri in April 2006. They married on November 18, 2006, before separating when Holmes filed for divorce on June 28, 2012, with the divorce being settled just weeks later.
Suri legally drops Cruise last name
According to the records, Suri legally changed her last name from Cruise to Noelle. She registered to vote in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, during her freshman year at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh in October 2024.
Noelle is also Holmes’ middle name. The legal change followed an earlier public use of the name when she graduated from high school in June 2024. That same weekend, Cruise was seen attending Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Two months after Suri’s graduation, Holmes spoke about her daughter during an interview with Town & Country.
“I’m proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy,” Holmes said, adding, “I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.”
In December 2024, Holmes publicly disputed reports about Suri’s relationship with Cruise, denying claims that her daughter inherited a trust fund from her father when she turned 18. Sharing a screenshot of the report on Instagram, Holmes wrote, “Completely false. Daily Mail you can stop making stuff up.”
She also added in the caption, “Enough.” Although Suri has largely stayed out of the spotlight, she was photographed visiting Holmes on the New York City set of Happy Hours in August 2025.

Holmes has previously also spoken about wanting to protect her daughter from public attention. In an April 2023 interview with Glamour, she reflected on raising Suri after her highly visible childhood. “What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her,” she said.
“I'm very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She's an incredible person,” she added. Holmes also discussed including Suri in her creative work: “She always does something on my films, I always ask her.”
"But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people. And it's this safe, beautiful, creative space. So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly," she continued.
Holmes further said, “That's how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she's my heart.” Days after Suri was born, Cruise spoke to ABC News about becoming a father.
“It was everything that we wanted it to be. It was spiritual. It was powerful. It was indescribable. What words can you use? It's still something that I'm processing and keep reliving,” he said. The 'Top Gun' actor also said hearing stories from friends about their own children had been enjoyable.
“It was so much fun, everyone was telling me their experiences about their children,” he shared.
