Tom Cruise in awe of British royal family and would 'give his right arm' to get honorary knighthood
LONDON, ENGLAND: Known as one of the world's best actors, Tom Cruise is "obsessed with the royal family" and wishes to add "honorary knighthood" to his impressive collection of awards.
According to a source who spoke to OK! Magazine, the 'Top Gun' actor would "give his right arm to get an honorary knighthood" and is "obsessed with the royal family and the aristocratic way of life."
According to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation website, "Honorary knighthoods are awarded by the Queen, on the advice of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, to those who have made an important contribution to British interests."
Tom Cruise's efforts to get an honorary knighthood have 'fallen flat'
The 'Mission Impossible' star is "in awe of the history that’s attached to royalty and loves to educate himself about it," the insider continued. "Even when he was living full-time in America, he’d binge-watch documentaries."
The source further stated, "He’s certain he fits right in with the royal family and is still hoping. Tom figures that if he were to be given the honor of a knighthood it would elevate him within British high society."
But the insider claimed that Cruise's "efforts to get an honorary knighthood have fallen flat."
Although Cruise hasn't had much luck getting the special title, it does not appear to have affected his dating life.
The 'Top Gun' actor is rumored to be in a romantic relationship with Russian socialite Elsina Khayrova, who was formerly married to diamond magnate Dmitry Tsetkov.
A source revealed in 2023 that "Tom is going into 2024 totally energized, excited and feeling healthier and happier than he has in years."
"This is a very special time for him, and having a serious relationship in his life that he can build on is the icing on the cake," the source dished.
Tom Cruise's unusual connections to the royal family
‘Mission Impossible’ star joined the star-studded list for King Charles's coronation concert on May 6, 2023.
Some fans were curious about how the 'Top Gun' star is connected to the royal family since Cruise joined celebrities like Lionel Richie and David and Victoria Beckham on the star-studded guestlist for the event.
The 'Top Gun: Maverick' actor has, however, previously been connected to the royal family. He has spent nearly 30 years forming connections with members of the royal family.
Cruise initially met the late Princess Diana when he was dating Nicole Kidman in the late 1990s. He later became "chums" with the former Princess of Wales. It was reported that he was grieved to learn of her death after a horrific car accident in 1997.
In a 2022 interview, Cruise told Fox News, "She was a magical person and really engulfed you with her personality." Among the famous people who attended Diana's funeral were Cruise and Kidman.
Tom had a second connection to the late Queen Elizabeth, with whom he supposedly spent a summer getting close before her death at the age of 96. The two "really hit it off" after having tea and scheduling a follow-up meeting, a source told the Sunday Times.
In March 2017, Cruise also had a great time with Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, at a luncheon held at Buckingham Palace to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Outward Bound Trust.
Along with Diana, Cruise became friends with her son Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, the Prince and Princess of Wales.
After learning that William was a fan of the original 'Top Gun' and often watched it with his mother, Cruise invited Prince William and Kate to the London premiere of his film 'Top Gun: Maverick' in May 2022.
During the event, Cruise said of Prince William, "We have a lot in common," adding that "We both love England, and we’re both aviators. We both love flying," per Fox News.
