Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson's son Chet says he felt 'worthless' growing up despite having famous parents
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Chet Hanks is opening up about his life growing up as the son of Hollywood A-listers Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.
Chet, 33, who is currently participating in ‘MTV’s Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets’, gave a fresh perspective on the mindset of Hollywood children growing up with famous parents.
During Tuesday, July 23, episode of the reality series, the musician shared that everything is not as rosy as it looks while admitting that he “grew up feeling completely f*****g worthless.”
Chet Hanks opens up about his childhood
As the sequence started during Tuesday’s episode, the ‘Your Honor’ star joined his housemates for a gathering when he thought he was participating in a game of Uno, per Us Weekly.
However, soon, the conversation turned deeper with the participants including Kim Zolciak Biermann, Josie Canseco, and OT Genasis started discussing their childhood experiences.
Chet shared with his co-stars, “I’ll tell you something about my childhood. People think that being Tom Hanks’ son, like, I would grow up feeling like I was the s**t,” before adding, “I actually grew up feeling completely f*****g worthless.”
However, he did not blame his famous parents for his ordeal, instead, he pinned the blame on his peers and strangers who caused him to feel bad.
He continued, “People treated me like, ‘You must think you’re better than me’ when I didn’t. I just wanted to be friends with everybody and be treated like everybody else.”
“But what am I supposed to do? Walk through the doors and be all meek and timid? That was a mind f**k for me to deal with,” added the ‘Empire’ star.

Chet explained, “If you do walk in through the door and you’re like, ‘Here I am mother f****r,’ then it’s like, ‘Oh look at you arrogant son of a b****h.’ I did internalize all that negativity. Maybe I am f*****g worthless, you know what I’m saying?”
He continued, that it was a “battle for me mentally and emotionally just to be able to walk outside, look someone in the eye and say, ‘What’s up? I’m Chet.’”
Chet opening up to his co-stars about his experience just corroborates his initial reason for wanting to enter the house.
Previously, he shared that he wanted his experience at ‘Surreal House’ to be positive while claiming he had the complete support of his parents.
The musician shared, “The Surreal Life is a different kind of show. It’s not messy and negative,” before adding, “It’s more about personal growth and relationships with people and vulnerability. It’s a completely different type of reality TV. I had full support in doing it.”
Chet Hanks opens up about his addiction
Earlier this month, the actor-singer opened up about his struggle with addiction while appearing on Bradley Martyn’s ‘Raw Talk’ podcast.
Chet shared, "I'm a f*****g cokehead, straight up," while comparing himself with Al Pacino’s character in ‘Scarface,' per Page Six.
He, nevertheless, clarified, "Not anymore, but that is my drug of choice, cocaine, bro, like Tony Montana!"
He recalled about the time when he used to recognize other addicts during clubbing, saying, "You’re like, 'I know this dude's a f*****g cokehead, but I want a little bump.' Like, ‘OK, fine.'”
He continued, “I would go do coke with the cokeheads, and they would be telling me, like, ‘Yo, chill, bro. Wait a second. Give it like 15 minutes.'”

However, the ‘White Boy Summer’ rapper had his moment of epiphany when he realized the drug was “so bad” for not only his heart but also for his “soul.”
He shared, “It’s terrible. It eats away [at you]. You just, like, wither away ’cause you can’t eat, you can’t sleep.”
However, he went into rehab in 2015 and has been maintaining sobriety since then.
