Tom Hardy accused of keeping Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren waiting hours over 'MobLand' exit
LONDON, ENGLAND: Actor Tom Hardy is at the center of fresh on-set controversy on the crime drama series 'MobLand,' where he plays Harry Da Souza, with reports alleging repeated filming delays stemming from refusals to leave his trailer for extended periods.
The series also stars Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren in key roles. The alleged incidents reportedly disrupted production schedules and contributed to growing frustration on set, though official representatives have not issued public confirmation regarding the claims.
Tom Hardy allegedly delays filming and keeps co-stars waiting on 'MobLand'
According to multiple sources speaking to Entertainment Weekly, it was claimed, “He refused to come out of his trailer for hours at a time. He kept the cast waiting, [which is] a power play. Keeping Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, and others waiting is career suicide, I would wager.”
The news comes five months after the Daily Mail reported that Mirren was having problems with him. A source said, "Tom’s character is charming. He’s the calm one but it is quite the opposite when the cameras stop. Dame Helen is a joy, she is a total pro and she has worked with so many people over the years."
It continued, "But she is getting increasingly frustrated with Tom and his attitude. He can be late to filming too and that is annoying for Dame Helen, who is extremely professional and disciplined. His tone is something Helen doesn’t like, along with his lateness. She expects better."
The source further emphasized, "It feels like Tom is winding her up. There is much chatter that he swaggers around like he’s the king. He is very, very arrogant. It’s a fantastic show and everyone loves working on it. It’s such a shame there is this undertone."
Another outlet previously reported that Hardy was often late to set, attempted to change the show's dialogue, clashed with producers, and was not happy that the series was becoming more of an ensemble show.
'MobLand' future remains uncertain after Tom Hardy exit reports
Hardy was reportedly fired from the Paramount+ series in May before a potential third season received official approval. As of now, the series has not been renewed for another season, though sources claimed that filming could begin in September if it moves forward.
The reported situation also aligns with previous comments made by 'Mad Max: Fury Road' director George Miller, who spoke to The Telegraph in 2024 about Hardy’s clashes with co-star Charlize Theron, saying, “[They’re] two very different performers.”
He further said, “Tom has a damage to him but also a brilliance that comes with it, and whatever was going on with him at the time, he had to be coaxed out of his trailer, whereas Charlize was incredibly disciplined — a dancer by training, which told in the precision of her performance."
Miller continued, "She is always the first one on set … I’m an optimist, so I saw their behavior as mirroring their characters, where they had to learn to cooperate in order to ensure mutual survival. There’s no excuse for it, and I think there’s a tendency in this business to use great performances as an excuse for other disruption that could be avoided.”
Actor Patrick Stewart is also among those who have publicly reflected on working with a withdrawn Hardy. Writing in his 2023 memoir 'Making It So,' he recalled, “I didn’t have a single exciting scene to play, and the actor who portrayed the movie’s villain, Shinzon, was an odd, solitary young man from London. His name was Tom Hardy.”
