LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Transgender actress Hunter Schafer is opening up about the "reality check" she received after Donald Trump took office in January.

The 26-year-old known for her roles in 'Euphoria' and 'The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes', recently shared an eight-minute-long video on her social media, where she revealed the apparent repercussions of the POTUS' executive order on gender, as reported by The Express.

Upon taking office, Trump effectively signed an executive order declaring the recognition of only two genders, while defining a person's sex as either male or female based on what was assigned to them at birth - stripping the transgender community of their legal protections.

As a result of the new order, Schafer said that her new passport now lists her as "male" as opposed to "female."

Hunter Schafer opens up about getting a 'harsh reality check' on seeing her new passport's gender listing

Hunter Schafer shared that after her passport was stolen in Barcelona, she was in need of a new passport. But even after filling in the form like she would "normally" do, when the document came, it listed her sex as "male."

Taking to her social media, Schafer shared, "I don't really post much these days but I had a little bit of a harsh reality check today and felt like it was important to share with whoever's listening."

She continued, "So I think most of us remember that on the first day of Trump's presidency, he signed an executive order to declare only two genders, male and female assigned at birth."

"As a result of this, the Bureau of Consular Affairs has frozen passport applications requesting a gender marker change or renewals or new applications with a gender marker deferring from an applicant's gender assigned at birth," noted the actress.

US citizens could select their gender for passports and also request to be listed as "X," which was offered as an option for non-binary, intersex, and gender non-conforming individuals.

"My initial reaction to this, because our president is a lot of talk, I thought I'll believe it when I see it and today I saw it on my new passport," the 'Cuckoo' actress remarked.

"Male, so…," revealed Schafer, before reflecting, "Now, to specify my gender markers were first changed in my teens when I first got my driver's license and then passport following all have been female since then. It hasn't really been a problem."

After explaining the reason behind her requirement for a new passport, the ‘Kinds of Kindness’ actress stated that she selected "female" while filling out the application form.

However, she was surprised when she received her new passport with her gender marker changed to "male."

"This has led me to believe that, I think, the agencies who are in charge of passports and this sort of thing are now required to cross reference certificates," shared Schafer, before adding, "I don't know exactly what changed, as far as the processing goes, but this is the first time this has happened to me since I changed my gender marker."

She added glumly, “We're coming up on a decade now or something, and I do believe it is a direct result of the administration our country is currently operating under."

Hunter Schafer clarifies that her intention is not to 'fearmonger' or 'receive consolation'

Further in her video, Hunter Schafer clarified that her intention in putting up the video was not to "fearmonger, or create drama, or receive consolation" but rather to shed light on the transgender community’s current situation under the latest government.

She further shared her concerns regarding those who do not fit the mold of a "celebrity trans woman who is white and thin and can adhere to contemporary beauty standards."

"I'm just sort of scared of the way this stuff slowly gets implemented because things just sort of start happening as we've seen in historical rises of fascism and everything that this new administration kind of represents," shared Schafer.

The 26-year-old continued, "There's a lot of talk, and then things start happening, and we start to normalize the circumstances we're under."

"And I just feel like it's important to share that it's not just talk, that this is real and it's happening and no one, no matter their circumstance - no matter how wealthy or white or pretty or whatever - is excluded. This is real," Schafer stressed about the current situation.

She clarified that while she has yet to make use of her new document, she anticipates taking "out myself to border patrol agents and that whole gig much more often than I would like to, or is really necessary" once she restarts her travels.

"I also want to say I don't give a f*** that they put an M on my passport," declared the 'Euphoria' star, before explaining, "It doesn't change really anything about me or my transness. However, it does make life a little harder."

"And thinking about other trans women who this might also be happening to, or other trans people, the list only gets longer, as far as the intricacies that come along with the difficulty that this brings into real life s**t," the actress added.

"Trans people are beautiful. We are never going to stop existing. I'm never going to stop being trans. A letter on a passport can't change that. F*** this administration," said Schafer, before concluding, "I don't really have an answer on what to do about this, but I feel it was important to share. This is real."
