Travis Kelce reveals he's ready to trade being an NFL team owner for career in broadcasting on retirement
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Travis Kelce has revealed that he isn’t planning to step away from the spotlight even after retirement from his NFL career.
During the latest episode of his and his brother Jason Kelce’s 'New Heights' podcast, the Chiefs tight end explained that he wants to be a “talking head” in sports.
Travis Kelce says he wants to 'broadcast' after NFL
Travis opened up about his retirement plans with his brother Jason Kelce that he has his eyes set on becoming an NFL broadcaster after his time on the team. Travis said he wanted to stay in the thick of football games, calling plays, in response to his brother's question about what he precisely "wanted to do" in broadcasting.
"I want to broadcast when I'm done playing,” he shared. "I want to be right here and tell them about the game, the old ball coach, ladies and gentlemen,” Travis said while putting on a sports caller lilt to his voice, as Jason, 36, laughed.
"I want to do that,” he continued. “I wanna be the talking head that calls the games.” The conversation started after it was revealed that the Philadelphia Eagles' owner, Jeffrey Lurie, was considering a sale, Jason indicated he would think about purchasing a minority part of the team, according to CBS.
"Trav, should we try and buy some of it?” Jason asked. But his brother pointed out that it was a difficult decision, noting Tom Brady's struggles to purchase a minority ownership in the Las Vegas Raiders since it interfered with his "TV deals."
"I'll back out of the TV deal right now if you tell me I can own the Philadelphia Eagles,” Jason shared, adding, “[Getting] to be an owner? That's like another level.”
As the host of Amazon Prime's new series 'Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?', an actor in Ryan Murphy's upcoming 'Grotesquerie', and an NBC 'Saturday Night Live' host last year, the Chiefs tight end already dabbled in broadcast and entertainment.
