MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Former president Donald Trump accidentally spilled out about his involvement in the non-disclosure agreement in hush money payment while speaking to reporters.

Standing outside the Manhattan courtroom on Thursday, May 16, the Republican presumptive presidential nominee, publicly admitted that he was part of the non-disclosure agreement with Stormy Daniels for the first time, reported MSNBC's Vaughn Hillyard, as per Raw Story.

Allison Gill, the co-host of the 'Jack' podcast, also made a similar observation. "Wow. In his daily courthouse remarks, Trump just admitted that he was part of the NDA with Stormy Daniels," Gill noted on X (formerly Twitter).

On day 18 of the historic criminal trial, Trump's former fixer Michael Cohen, a star witness, took the stand where the defense grilled him.

What did Donald Trump say about NDA?

"I have the only illegal NDA," the White House hopeful said.

Hillyard reported that Trump cited an article from the former Southern District of New York prosecutor Andrew McCarthy. The article published in the National Review claimed NDAs were legal for everyone else.

"Yet, [Manhattan District Attorney Alvin] Bragg alleges Trump's was illegal … though he won't exactly say why," McCarthy's column read. Addressing the press, Trump read out the arguments by McCarthy and said,  "I have the only illegal NDA."

"Trump then stopped, looked up at the cameras, and added in his own words, 'I have the only illegal NDA,'" the MSNBC reporter added.

According to Hillyard, Trump had never admitted the existence of an NDA between him and Daniels. However, in 2019, he disclosed that the NDA was between Daniels, his former personal attorney, Cohen, and other parties.

The former president never publicly divulged his involvement in the NDA, but he conceded it in another lawsuit in a California court.

In the California case, Trump admitted to repaying Cohen for the hush money. Still, in his opening statement of the hush money trial, Trump's attorney, Todd Blanche, said the evidence would prove his client never reimbursed Cohen.

Trump, the first former president to go to a criminal trial, faces 34 felony counts for falsifying business records to cover up the $130 000 payment to Daniels through his ex-fixer before the 2016 election to stop the sexual encounter story between them coming out.

Internet mocks Trump's slip of the tongue

Weighing in on Trump's accidental admittance about his role in the NDA, netizens said the ex-POTUS did not know when to shut his mouth.

One social media user wrote, "And this is why he will never testify; he will confess to everything."

"That comment should be admissable, right? And it'll stand unless Donald testifies," another remarked.

One person added, "And that is why he shouldn’t testify. And why I hope he does anyway."

Meanwhile, another response read, "This is why he needs to testify, he'll talk himself right into jail!!!!"

"He can't keep his trap shut, bless his heart," one individual wrote.

Someone else wrote, "TFG just blew up his own defense-now this is evidence." Another person added, "The guy just can't keep his mouth shut. He's in love with himself."

"Donald Trump doesn’t know when to shut his trap. I hope that he’s such a narcissistic egomaniac that he takes the stand," one user chimed in.
