WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump sharply escalated tensions with Iran on Friday, June 12, accusing Tehran of spreading false information about a proposed agreement with Washington and condemning what he described as a drone attack targeting Indian ships near the Strait of Hormuz.

In a fiery statement, Trump rejected reports circulating in Iranian media, called Iranian officials “dishonorable,” and warned the regime to “get their act together” as questions mount over the future of negotiations.

Trump rejects Iran's version of the deal

The latest clash erupted after Iranian state-linked media outlets published what they claimed were details of a draft understanding between Tehran and Washington.

Those reports suggested Iran would preserve key elements of its nuclear program, maintain influence over the Strait of Hormuz and potentially receive compensation connected to damage sustained during the recent conflict.

“The terms that Iran leaked out to the Fake News have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He accused Tehran of presenting a version of events that was entirely detached from reality.

“What they said, including their weak and pathetic statement on having a deal, bears no relation to the truth,” Trump added.

Trump's criticism quickly moved beyond the reported details of the agreement and turned into a broader attack on Iran's negotiating conduct.

"Very dishonorable people to deal with," he wrote. “With them, there is no such thing as dealing in good faith.” Just a day earlier, the administration had projected optimism about ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Friday's statement, however, suggested Trump believes Tehran may be attempting to shape public perception of the talks by releasing information that the White House disputes.

The president also tied his criticism to a separate security incident in the region.

Trump claimed Iran was behind a drone attack directed at Indian ships departing the Strait of Hormuz, though he said the attack was successfully repelled.

“Their totally rebuffed Drone attack last night against Indian Ships leaving the Hormuz Strait is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE,” Trump wrote. “They better get their act together, and FAST!”

The dispute centers on reports published by Iranian state-affiliated outlets describing what they portrayed as elements of a future agreement.

Among the claims were provisions allowing Iran to continue uranium enrichment discussions during a 60-day negotiation period and proposals related to compensation for wartime damage.

Another report went even further, alleging that future arrangements could include major reconstruction assistance and guarantees related to regional military activity.

His remarks are likely to attract significant attention in India, particularly as multiple vessels carrying Indian crew members have recently been caught up in military operations and security incidents across the region.
